hkskyline's 2019 in Macau

Located away from the built-up areas and by the water, Macau Tower offers an unobstructed view of the city as well as some daredevil activities with a view. Zhuhai seems to be on a skyscraper-building spree in the background though.

Mainland China is just on the other side of that narrow channel.

Looking north, the main part of Macau is the historic centre that now has UNESCO World Heritage status. The gold skyscraper is one of Stanley Ho's casinos, the new Grand Lisboa.

While most of the new casinos are on the Cotai side, there are a few here as well. Beyond the sea are Hong Kong's mountains in the background.

Nice pictures!

I had no idea you could see Hong Kong (any of it) from Macau.

Not really. This plaza is just across from the tower but is in a desolate and empty area. There are few buildings around this reclaimed zone and no restaurants to entice people to come browse around. Add to that the atrocious summer heat and it is not surprising to be empty.

what a fantastic opportunity to be up there -- and great photos.

i have to say, for such a stunning setting, its not a very attractive looking city at those views.

i am sure on the ground is much better -- and hopefully the new buildings you can see going up everywhere will help.

Is the Portuguese language still prevalent in Macau, similar to the English language in Hong Kong?

Visited Hong Kong and Macau in 2015 and remember it was the first time to look in to mainland China, from the fortress, didn't visit the observation tower. But Zhuhai didn't have so many skyscrapers u/c then.

While Portuguese remains an official language and is evident in street signs, you don't hear much of it on the streets, and far less than hearing English in Hong Kong.

^Thanks. This was the photo that made me ponder that.
