Stop 2 - Valparaiso, Chile
While i was in Santiago for a month i went to Valparaiso 3 Saturdays in a row since it is only 2 hours away by bus. https://i.ibb.co/3WnLsqN/valparaiso.jpg host images https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9d70a923_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...fc6f7c14_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1972/4...6264f751_c.jpgValparaiso street art by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1980/3...2ecfe303_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1943/3...bb49e04d_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1973/3...7383ec6f_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1953/3...ff97c1f4_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1915/4...7f300814_c.jpgValparaiso street art by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1910/4...4cb64ecd_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1963/4...2b402b6a_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1960/3...c14467d3_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1930/4...49273988_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1969/4...711642f3_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1924/4...b8de7220_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1927/4...b4748610_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1909/3...029f95f0_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1946/4...6440b718_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1970/4...e3bb8616_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1932/3...3d9bf963_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c314f760_c.jpgValparaiso by Piero Damiani, on Flickr |
Stop 3 - Puerto Varas, Chile
Puerto Varas is a city in the Lakes Region of Chile that was founded by German immigrants in 1853 and this is reflected in the architecture of the city and also in a large part of the population who are descendants of the original settlers. To reach Puerto Varas you need to fly into the city of Puerto Montt and then take a 30 minutes shuttle van ride from the airport. I stayed here for 4 nights. https://i.ibb.co/t3LxwCz/Puerto-Varas.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/7877/3...633bc70e_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ea578a75_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7896/4...b4f9911f_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1945/4...e24184ba_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1906/4...de46ec8a_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4598889c_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7890/4...cf6ba7f6_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7913/4...ff818169_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7808/4...d2f1dd69_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7828/3...cab36d47_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7847/3...81480336_c.jpgPuerto Varas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr While i was in Puerto Varas i took a half day tour to Frutillar, another city founded by German immigrants https://live.staticflickr.com/1966/3...2485e3b7_c.jpgFrutillar by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7804/4...e35ee762_c.jpgFrutillar by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5729f3b5_c.jpgFrutillar by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8106ff49_c.jpgFrutillar by Piero Damiani, on Flickr and then i took a day trip to the famous Petrohué Waterfalls and Lake Llanquihue https://live.staticflickr.com/1937/3...d7c5568f_c.jpgPetrohué Waterfalls by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7810/4...452c3b2c_c.jpgPetrohue Falls by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1907/4...392f6afe_c.jpgLago Llanquihue by Piero Damiani, on Flickr |

Stop 4 - Punta Arenas, Chile
I flew from Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas and stayed here for 3 nights. It is easy to see how wealthy this city was in the past just by looking at the elegant mansions scattered all around the city. An interesting fact about Punta Arenas is that 50% of the population who lives here have Croatian heritage. https://i.ibb.co/7NMW0BN/Punta-Arenas.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...13109fe8_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3661ac1a_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...dc22d87a_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...93e9e1a2_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bf5c8758_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7859/4...3c62edbb_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7813/4...79004200_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7890/3...86b73e26_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7872/3...7dac9e5b_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7896/3...7bcb01a2_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7896/3...4313a03a_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7857/3...002c6736_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7834/3...bfe151c8_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7801/4...ce1b6991_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7896/4...1fe8da6f_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7892/4...7f4d5a40_c.jpgMagdalena Island by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7916/4...ec1b54ba_c.jpgMagdalena Island by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7824/4...9bd094ce_c.jpgPunta Arenas by Piero Damiani, on Flickr |
Oh man, Chile looks amazing. Especially Puerto Varas (which I had never heard of before).
Beautiful photos and really looking forward to future installments. |

Stop 5 - Puerto Natales + Chilean Patagonia
I took a bus from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales (2 hours and 45 minutes) a quaint little town at the edge of the Chilean Patagonia and a number of important national parks. This city is the main base for any trekkers who get ready to go on multi days expeditions. https://i.ibb.co/g35g89T/Puerto-Natales.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...923cb5eb_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...22636c08_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7908/4...34d7e230_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7805/4...bd1e9bdf_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7903/4...493a77d6_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7806/4...10221658_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7912/4...687653e1_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/4888/4...b09961c3_c.jpgPuerto Natales by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...29f31773_c.jpgTorres del Paine National Park by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1938/4...138f0d7d_c.jpgTorres del Paine by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bcdfc411_c.jpgGrey Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7852/4...886b2df8_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7868/4...8561aec0_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7847/4...259e73c7_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7867/4...4a8c389b_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7831/4...532a93ba_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7902/4...41280627_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7868/4...b4b8226c_c.jpgPatagonia - Chile by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0842f55e_c.jpgTorres del Paine National Park by Piero Damiani, on Flickr |
beautiful chile wow. looks like you were there the year after we visited. and you had maybe a bit more clear weather.
when we were in santiago we took a day trip to the andes and when in valpo another day trip to isla negra and wine country just south. then we made the choice to go to easter island instead of patagonia or up to atacama. its interesting what people chose to do when they visit. there is so much you could do and see, but not all on one trip! chile is definately a place you want to return to and explore further. looking forward to the rest of your world tour -- this will be a great adventure to see through your eyes. |

Stop 6 - El Calafate + Argentinian Patagonia
I took a bus from Puerto Natales to El Calafate in Argentina and the ride took 5.5 hours. El Calafate is the main base for people wanting to explore the Argentinian side of Patagonia and all the various glaciers including the famous Perito Moreno https://i.ibb.co/M7HFBvh/el-calafate.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...022fd972_c.jpgEl Calafate by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f57cf1b1_c.jpgEl Calafate by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...19853d28_c.jpgEl Calafate by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...94c0c697_c.jpgEl Calafate by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0aa86f01_c.jpgEl Calafate by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...effa50d8_c.jpgEl Calafate by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7858/4...325a80a1_c.jpgPerito Moreno Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/1918/4...49feb9de_c.jpgLos Glaciares National Park by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/7803/4...c74ff234_c.jpgLos Glaciares National Park by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d572e69e_c.jpgSpegazzini Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2330d755_c.jpgLos Glaciares National Park by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...94e45794_c.jpgPerito Moreno Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...41181d09_c.jpgPerito Moreno Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6d376e87_c.jpgPerito Moreno Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5ee6ccea_c.jpgPerito Moreno Glacier by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...82e74bc2_c.jpgLos Glaciares National Park by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0d6af530_c.jpgEl Chalten by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7408c7f1_c.jpgEl Chalten by Piero Damiani, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ef1cb530_c.jpgEl Chalten by Piero Damiani, on Flickr |
Incredible photos and landscapes. Some really cool towns, too. Chile and Argentina are just about at the top of my travel list.

Stop 7 - Ushuaia, Argentina
I flew from El Calafate to Ushuaia (1 hour and 20 minutes flight). This thread is amazing, thanks pallo! I may not be able to physically travel at the moment, but at least I can travel vicariously through your photos.
|
Ushuaia, Argentina looks a lot like a SA version of Reykjavik.
|
Can't thank you enough for those uploads!
I was in Chile in 2008. I landed in Santiago and immediately flew up to Arica at the Peruvian border, then bussed it south all the way to Concepcion and beyond. I really enjoyed going thru the Atacama Desert, driest desert in the world, with only .01 precipitation per year. |
