Not a "Super tall", but a big tower for an English city.

Construction starts next year and will be completed in 2013. At 201 metres tall and 56 floors above ground level, it will be the tallest building outside London in the UK.

Nice looking building.

The building will have a sky restaurant, 122 apartments, conference facilities and an hotel. Rumours in Birmingham are that it will be a high class hotel, possibly a Jumeirah.

Really pulling for Brum on this one.

Yes, many British cities have tried for years to get some really tall buildings put up, but the planning restrictions are really tough. 9/11 didn't help, just as Birmingham was about to construct 2 big buildings around that time, they were both put on hold. One was never built, and the other was reduced in height to just 130 metres. The CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) carries a lot of clout over here, and because central Birmingham is just 10 miles from the international airport, this places lots of restrictions as to what can actually be built in the city :)

The architectural company involved is Aedas.

that is one heck of a project for a country/continent that has long lagged in skyscraper proliferation

great looking building - hope it goes ahead - Birmingham is one UK city that could really do with getting a more iconic and distinctive skyline
