San Antonio Fire Museum renderings
 

With the HQ relocation of the Fire Department to the new Safety HQ, the old Fire Station Number 1 that housed the SAFD HQ is being transformed into a museum centered around the history of the SAPD. There will also be a children's educational wing in the museum.

Cool... liking the glass addition.

Not a bad idea after all of it's years of service to San Antonio. Exterior will look a lot nicer as well.

Definitely looks nice, especially with the upgraded lighting. But my first thought was where did those random buildings in the back come from haha.

For a second, I thought they were relocating it somewhere off of I-10......


I don't want to revive an old thread (see: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=145486) but in randomly searching through a job search website, I found a posting for a Director of Pre-construction for The Venetian | The Palazzo Resort (Las Vegas Sands). Now I don't know, they could just put up a posting for a this job as a nationwide search for their new project in Madrid or somewhere else, but it just got my brain turning. For all you other "investigators" out there, lets see who can connect the dots and turn up a reference to San Antonio within the last 6 months or so.......

Would they build a resort here without a gambling component?

From what I've read on other sites (randomly) is that the "casino" portion of their ventures only consume about 2 or 3% of their total square footage; I guess they are trying to sell their projects as more "Convention Center" than casino.

It might not be too hard too pull off. I think of the ballrooms in the Grand Hyatt and can't see that its too difficult to reconfigure a space like that into a game room. Is it worth it for them to build a "non-casino" convention center hotel and then convert when/if it becomes legal? or just wait 'til it is and build AFTER the fact and risk a competitor sneaking in and beating them to the punch? That's a bunch of what if's....... but I'm aslso looking for a connection (if there is one to be made):
Is it part of the Convention Center expansion?
Is it part of the RiverCenter expansion?
Is it a Hard Rock Hotel & "Casino"?

I would think it was or is related to the convention center expansion.

Although there is some rumblings about allowing gambling in Texas. Retama is about to join in a partnership with some Las Vegas company to keep them afloat. I thought I remembered reading some reference to getting their foot in the door in Texas in case some gambling becomes legal.

It could also be linked to whatever BC Lynd is doing with that Soledad block.

A museum for this building is so smart. And the renderings look awesome!
