Something to keep in mind is the table gaming push PA legislators are currently making in light of the budget crisis they face. Taking the easy road politics aside, should that pass the 'slots barn' nomenclature will become irrelevant before it ever really sets up shop in Philadelphia.
Whether that leads to accelerated phasing/hotels/etc is up for debate... A push for table-game gambling in Pennsylvania |
I heard a snippet on KYW the other day that pilling has started. Can anyone nearby snap some pics?

They have already invested, what, $165 million in this? I really doubt they will cut and run after just building the "scaled down" plan; especially if table gaming is approved. |
Slot BARNS be gone....
Shame, in a sense. A classy casino in the Strawbridge Building would have been great for Market East.
Sun, Oct. 11, 2009 Table games in Pa. are all but assured By Suzette Parmley Inquirer Staff Writer HARRISBURG - The last piece of the budget that Gov. Rendell finally signed Friday night has not quite clicked into place. But everyone in the middle of the 101-day budget marathon considers this final item a fait accompli. Legislators expect to get it done this week. The budget won't balance without it. In fact, the people with the most to gain are so confident of its passage that they have already cleared thousands of square feet of space on the floors of their casinos. Thanks to the budget crisis, legalized gambling in Pennsylvania is about to expand dramatically. Between 2001 and 2008, investors in Pennsylvania's 14 licensed gaming facilities gave $4.4 million to political campaigns in the state, according to a study by the self-styled watchdog group Common Cause. Millions more came from lawyers and lobbyists representing those interests, the study found. (Campaign reports for any donations made during the 101-day budget stalemate aren't available yet.) "There is a recognition amongst all parties that table games are coming to Pennsylvania," Marcy, Eachus' spokesman, said Friday after a table-games bill passed the Senate 29-20. The legislation now goes to the House and may be voted on as soon as Tuesday. If it reaches Rendell's desk this week, table games could be running by spring. The state Gaming Control Board has said it would need six to nine months to be ready to regulate the new games. |

Are there any projects for parks, development etc. around the Philly waterfront including the Penns landing area. This casino stuff is ridiculous. I have just been out of the Philly loop in regards to what's going on for a little while. I plan on visiting the city again within a month or two if possible.
|
I've heard rumors of planned work being done at Penn Treaty Park north of the casino site. There's a bike trail now running from south of Penn's Landing to Pier 70 in South Philly, too...

I've been by to check on the progress of SugarHouse on a regular basis. It looks like it's moving right along. And what about the folks from Casino Free Philadelphia who said they would be out there protesting every day of construction? What happened to the protesters who held this up unnecessarily for four years?

Yeah while going to Go Vertical rock climbing, I had front row seats to the construction at Sugar House. I was quite surprised to actually finally see steel. Is the hotel still part of the building tho?
|
I think this is just the temporary structure which does not include the hotel phase?
|
Did you say FREE BUFFETS?
When do they open???!!:eat: |

Sugarhouse is going to be hideous. The interem development will look like the Lowes/ Best Buy strip mall in Plymouth Meeting. Mainly surface parking lots. Phase 1 +2 if they ever happen are supposed to expand with a parking garage and hotel. |
Yea, this thing looks like sh&$ already. Just wait until the homeless people and losers show up at this slots barn once it opens. Great development plan, real smart. What a waste.
|
Well, this is going to be a real treat for the waterfront...Can we just get full table gaming, and do these right?
|
The table gaming bill passed.
