Hilarious Franken-building.
|
Way too much going on.
|
^ Agreed. The arched windows along 8th, balconies, and rustication really throw everything off. I understand they were going for a fusion of neoclassical and postmodern styles, but this isn't the way to do it.
|
Yes, its a bit of a Frankentower

8th & Spring scheduled to break ground this week
320 apartments, 8,900 sq. ft. of retail from Holland Partner Group. Designed by MVE & Partners. http://urbanize.la/sites/default/fil...?itok=2oQNRKcV http://urbanize.la/sites/default/fil...?itok=p5VowtW9 |
Can anyone get any pics of the groundbreaking?

The other "Frankentown" was redesigned. While it's still a bit busy, it looks much better IMO. I'm actually now excited for this project to rise.

Well they addressed the biggest complaint regarding the rounded balconies. This is a busy but also a pretty nice design.
|
To be honest, with all the blue glass buildings going up here in Los Angeles and elsewhere in the country, I happily welcome something with a more interesting, detailed facade. Especially seeing as it's within the historic core, where something completely contemporary might be jarring. It's a happy medium and I say go for it.

8th & Spring Tower (755 S. Spring) -- July 9th -- The Pour
Was able to watch and record a bit of the pour on Saturday. |
Don't know if anyone saw this yet, but the Omgivning site show some renderings of the lobby interior (?).
