Suburbs or Downtown Winnipeg?
Since I know that living in the suburbs can be hard on the environment, I was curious to see how many people on this forum, who live and work in Winnipeg, live either downtown or in the suburbs?
By the way, living in the burbs, For me to drive downtown would only take less than 15 minutes, so I am not saying a east to west freeway/ perimeter freeway (as in my last thread), would improve my life in any large way. http://www.gov.mb.ca/fs/images/community_areas.jpg note-- try and go by this map |

you're poll is silly. I live 15 minute walk to downtown, however you don't have an option for that. i'm not the suburbs. also, what was a suburb 40 yrs ago, no longer is. river heights has 100 yr old houses but i wouldn't call them the suburbs

i live in st. vital and work downtown. Takes me less then 15 min to get to work on off peak rush hour.

Nice work! It's a shame that the Hydro building gets hidden behind the larger Portage & Main towers. |

For the sake of this poll, I'd assume anywhere from Arlington to Des Meurons, Corydon to Selkirk would be considered "downtown".
And yes, I live downtown. |
I don't live in Winnipeg.
But I live in what you might call Thunder Bay's "exchange district". Nowhere near as impressive, but the general built form (lots of historic warehouse type buildings, bit worn down, just north of downtown) exists. |
The Manitoba Free Press called my neighborhood a suburb in 1873... but soon after that it became identified as a veritable quarter of the city's historic urban core. So yes, for the purpose of this poll, I consider North Point Douglas part of downtown.

Downtown at the Ashdown.

In all seriousness I don't know if Wolseley or it's counterpart the West End north of Portage Ave. counts as "downtown", but I don't think it counts as the suburbs either... maybe it did 100 years ago, but not anymore. |
1ajs, where did you take that shot from?
