Tin Shui Wai Photos

Tin Shui Wai New Town is located in the northwestern part of New Territories. Its development began in 1987 but has gotten into headlines lately for its abundant public housing and social problems.

Tin Shui Wai was basically me first exposure to HK, I stayed there with a friend and his family in 1998, my first time outside the US. For an American, to see this 'suburb' was absolutely staggering. IIRC, Tin Shui Wai has sort of two sides to it, the public housing side, and the more private Kingswood Villas (there's a name for the whole development but I forget what it is). My friend lived on the private side. The fact that 25 miles out it had express busses to Central and good lite rail connections to Tuen Mun and Yuen Long (connecting to KCR and other systems) was amazing to me.

BTW, the view of Shenzen from the upper floors of those buildings is fantastic.

Tin Shui Wai now is less than an hour from Central as residents can take the West Rail Line into Kowloon (25 minutes) and transfer to the Tung Chung Line (15 minutes).

So are most of these pictures of public housing?

Yes

Just to get a rough idea of the density in the area. On average, how many residential units are in the larger public housing complexes? I presume that the public housing is for working class people?
