San Antonio Skyline Best Wedding Photo Op
 

Hello friends,

I am taking wedding pictures for my wedding in 2021 and I wanted to have a high vantage point of the SA skyline in the back. Where would be the best place to take these photos?

I'm assuming you want the vantage point like you see from Alamo Stadium near Trinity? Raul (a.k.a The Model) will be the best go-to for this info

I was thinking more like in Downtown. I know some parking garages have great views of the tower America’s or the tower life building.

Alpine Drive above the Sunken Gardens has been my go-to for downtown vistas forever. Hard to beat, just walk up from the Zoo or take the path through the woods north of the tea garden. Perfect skyline view, plus the foreground is the sunken gardens instead of damned highway or parking lot!

Hi Joey,

I am also a wedding photographer. I have never used the whole skyline in a picture because most of our skyline is spread out. From Alpine, or Alamo Stadium the skyline will look very small and out of focus. So something to show very close you won't ever get the whole skyline. The Durango bridge over the SA riverwalk is a good spot, or the park below the bridge. Even the Hays Street Bridge would be ok, not the best vantage point. Cool Middle of the street shots that show San Antonio is St. Marys and Houston Street, and Commerce street by Sunset Station have cool downtown backdrops. Parking Garages are good, but sometimes risk being runned out by security guards. I usually get in and get out fast. If I had to say one with a good view would be the garage for the Westin Hotel across the street. Hope that helps, I have been dong weddings for 21 years and part of the reason why people hire me is my knowledge for all the vantage points of the city and use them for backdrops.

I think I’d defer to the photographer too, but the other day I did notice that from the west side of downtown, buildings seem a little more conpact. Here’s the view from the elevated highway (35/10).

Don’t take your pics on the highway obviously, but maybe look around that area. Maybe top of market square parking garage or something.
