There was a crane and at least one excavator on site when I passed by yesterday. Didn't get a good look at what was going on. But seems to be going ahead if a large crane was assembled on site.

Concrete piles being driven on site today.

Is this that site with the "Banana Split" ice cream shop?

No, this one's right at the southern end of Confusion Corner, between the intersections and the BRT station.

Incidentally, no movement at all visible on the Banana Boat project. At the current rate, I fully expect the Banana Boat to be serving up ice cream this summer, as per usual.

Ah, gotcha. I knew it was in that area somewhere.

That was a quick transition from stalled/cancelled to under construction.

Yeah, their working quickly as mentioned by posters and the pic provided, thx

There's even a 2-Storey Billboard/Sign when heading South on Osborne being erected on site..Should be real distracting when it's on..:)

EDIT: Old sign. not new...

esquire Jan 21, 2016 6:56 PM

^ The billboard I think you're speaking of is actually an old one being dismantled!

I have to admit I didn't really expect this project to come to fruition, I more or less lumped it in the same category as the other eternal proposals that never actually get built like the mythical Lakeview hotel on St. Mary's or the Inlett office/condo on Osborne North. Good on Imperial Properties for getting it done. I wonder who has signed on as tenants?

Cyro Jan 21, 2016 8:13 PM

^ Thanks for the correction. I seen the boys up their this morning working on it, with the signs removed already..looked like it was going up..but it's comin down..:D

Not sure on tenants but the sq.ft. available is down from the older original estimates I gave.
Around 32K sq.ft. is available at this point.
Maybe they do have some tenants lined up at this point, or hey've cut back on available space in the design. aprx: 10K sq.ft. It's quite the change from the original estimates.

For Osborne, they could have done better (design and height-wise).

I'm a little confused, is this office space or residential?

bomberjet Jan 21, 2016 10:25 PM

Some kind of professional centre. For it's location, I'm okay with it. Not in the village, but rather smashed into an area that doesn't have a lot of opportunity to be used as anything else. I guess someone could've put up a large tower and called it TOD, since Osborne Station is right there.

Jeff Jan 22, 2016 12:07 AM

Cjob talks about this project paired with a 10-storey residential tower at Jessie and Osborne.. http://www.cjob.com/2016/01/21/113590/

now if the lot across from the harkness station gets developed then maybe the city can start touting a bit of success on the TOD front :)

bomberjet Jan 22, 2016 2:09 AM

Latest over used buzzword: iconic.

Boreal Jan 22, 2016 2:41 AM

It's a notable improvement over what is currently present at that site. I'm actually quite looking forward to it, as far as minor developments go. It will give the space some nice volume.

They could have gotten CBC's Rick Mercer to do that video, because that's exactly what it reminds me of.

Does anyone know what's in that tiny brick building at Osborne and Jessie right now? Also, I hate that the Masonic Temple is across the street because it's such a waste of what could become very valuable land if both these projects go ahead beside the station. The city needs to plan and act NOW on redesigning confusion corner before more development happens and it's too late, especially in regards to that Money Mart lot.

cllew Jan 22, 2016 5:08 AM

Brick building was at one time a Winnipeg Hydro substation , then was the home of the General Council of Winnipeg Community Center's. Last tenant I can find is CMH Construction

scryer Jan 22, 2016 8:44 AM

Thanks for the cbc link and article!

But I'm still a little underwhelmed by the project. For, I hate to over-use it, an iconic location in Winnipeg, couldn't they have designed something better or unique? It's called confusion corner for a reason, they could have had some funky designs going on and what we're getting is a white box that a three year old could come up with.

The article mentioned something about a residential component; I'm interested in the design and why it wasn't considered as a second phase (or something) alongside this office; IMO it would have been a great opportunity to build a dense little community.
