San Antonio Hugman International Airport!
San Antonio needs to name it's airport like most every large city.
After someone important in San Antonio history. I would say Hugman, since he is the architect with the idea and plan for the Riverwalk. Imagine downtown San Antonio with no Riverwalk. If no Riverwalk, I would say no Tower of Americas, and no San Antonio of today. If not Hugman, what would you name the Airport? San Antonio International just seems incomplete. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Antonio_River_Walk |
Okay, how about San Antonio Lady Ga Ga International Airport?
|
I like the idea. What better way to honor the man whose idea draws our tourists in by naming the place that brings in our tourists after him.
|
We could call it San Antonio Valero Airport after the original name of the Alamo. This could have the side benefit of drawing in lots of advertising revenue from the energy company ;)

SA International Airport is fine. I hate the "everyone else does it, we have to do it" argument.
We should do this, why? |
Los Angeles dosen't have a name for it's airport it's just Los Angeles International Airport LAX or Dallas Fort Worth International Airport DFW

I agree, supplemental names for airports really only have a useful function when there's more than one large airport in a city, ala Love, Hobby, JFK, O'Hare, etc. Otherwise its easier to just call it by the name of the city (or cities, in the case of DFW or SeaTac).

By the way, a history lesson on Austin's airport name - "Austin-Bergstrom International Airport". The name Bergstrom comes from Bergstrom Air Force Base back when the property used to be an air force base. The base was named after Captain John August Earl Bergstrom, an Austinite, who was killed in the Pearl Harbor attack. He was the first Austinite to die in WWII. Then Congressman Lyndon B. Johnson convinced the Air Force to rename the base after Bergstrom. Of course, after the air base closed and was turned into an airport, the name stayed. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/austinair...romhistory.htm |

Oh of course. It's no slam to Mr. Hugman or the Riverwalk. But "Lady" Gaga kind of scares me a bit.

Wasn't there already an attempt in 1997 or so (or a suggestion by one of SA's then council-members) to rename SAT - I think it was for Cesar Chavez?
Glad that didn't happen. Although, I wouldn't be opposed to naming the each of the terminals when T2 opens next year. Some famous San Antonians Robert Hugman, Dionicio Rodriguez (the concrete sculptor and artisan), Tom Slick. Interesting topic. |
I think I like Hugman, he gave us what we have become famous for, besides the Alamo.
