Moose Jaw Multiplex

Moose Jaw is on the verge of building a new home for the Moose Jaw Warriors. Unfortunately costs have skyrocketed and has delayed the project. If they don't build it, they will lose their WHL franchise. There has been some debate of where to put it too, I'm hoping for downtown, obviously.

No attack against you, but odd that they would go out of province to choose a firm. But then again, I know nothing about trying to choose an architect. And even further, perhaps you guys are the best. :P

That's a fairly decent size rink given the size of Estevan and the level of their hockey.

we do lots of work in saskatchewan...there arent a huge number of architects in saskatchewan, particularily for special building types where previous experience is important.

one of the nicest buildings my firm has ever done is the mendel gallery in saskatoon.....we did casino regina too a while back....a spa in moose jaw.

i think this one came about becasue they saw the arena in dauphin for the kings and they wanted the same architect.

I'd assume that there are enough architects given the number of projects and population?

oh my goodness Moose Jaw looks scary... Susan Sarandon was right:P

nope

179 architects in saskatchewan (pop. 1m)

350 architects in manitoba (pop. 1.17m)

saskatchewan building permits jan-nov 2006: 1,067.3b
manitoba building permits jan-nov 2006: 1,281.7b

saskatchewan is under represented in the field of architecture considering the population and the amount of construction.

Hah, that seems like a lot of architects to me.

I'd chalk it up to the fact that Manitoba has a Faculty of Architecture. Its been mentioned as a possible faculty addition at the U of R.

naw...manitoba's proportion is about the same as the other areas of the country...saskatchewan's is low for some reason....probably the lack of a larger urban centre.

So then, if we have a lack of any large Urban centres, then the number of architects we have is adequate.

Anyways, thanks for coming out.

Back on track, please.

I recently attended a Warrior – Pats game at the Can. Although the old arena is a complete piece of shit, the atmosphere was outstanding. 3000 in the can kicks the crap out of any 6000+ Blade games I have been too (6000 at the CUC is less than half full). The new arena looks great btw.

Greco Roman Mar 18, 2007 3:53 PM

What would be the official seating capacity of this arena?

Andy6 Mar 18, 2007 4:47 PM

In the interest of "midwestern" bonding, I would point out that the Moose Jaw Warriors are the old Winnipeg Warriors. I see from wikipedia that the even older Winnipeg Monarchs/Clubs/Junior Jets are now the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Winnipeg should work harder at keeping a junior team. I think a junior team would be a great addition to the Peg City.

Wasn't there a big fire in downtown Moose Jaw a couple years ago??

Is there a possibility of the new arena filling in that gap .. or is that land spoken for?

Only a few buildings burnt down. The lots are fairly small, nothing that could fit this project. They actually want to put it west of Main Street. The east side has seen some positive developments i.e. Casino, Spa, etc. Whereas the West side, not so much.
