Photos from 10/19.
This building has taken a while to get above the street because they had to dig down 65 feet, 5 levels of parking. They also apparently have water to contend with thanks to the river which is just across the street. Now that it's just getting above street level, I thought I'd start a thread on it. The building is 412 feet tall, and with a very central location, is sure to make an impact on the skyline, especially from the south.
View from northwest at 2nd & Colorado Streets. Tower section is now 2 levels above the street. http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9...431editqi6.jpg http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/1...451editdk0.jpg The building will be quite close to its neighbor 100 Congress nextdoor, about 15 feet I guess. http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/3...453editme6.jpg http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/8...454editsv3.jpg A rare sight, a derrick crane in Austin. http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/2...455editms0.jpg View from the south across the river. http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7...356edithk9.jpg Some shots from June showing how tight the construction site is. When the shorter tower crane at the site points its boom towards the east, it is only about 6 feet from crashing into 100 Congress nextdoor. http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/4...314editsl4.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/4...318editqs4.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6...315edityo2.jpg |
This will make a huge impact on the skyline especially from the south

Looking good. Thanks for the update priller.

Views from the south from the Long Center/Palmer Events Center parking garage on Sunday.
See more here. The project has 2 cranes by the way. The third pictured here is across the street at The Austonian site. That project will eventually have cranes also. http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9...630editjb3.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/1...679editgo7.jpg |
This building is filling a nice gap. When heading up Congress the view of the skyline will be amazing with Altavida and the Austonian adding to the density of the direct west side of Congress Ave.

Nice. Were you able to find the other threads? I really liked your photo of The Monarch you took recently. There's also a thread for Legacy and the others.
|
Looks like they have some of the brick panels up and windows in now. I will try to get down there this weekend with a camera and take some pics.

Altavida building high life, one floor at a time
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Thursday, April 17, 2008 Workers are pouring the 20th floor of the Altavida apartment project rising at 101 Colorado St. The 36-story tower overlooking Lake Lady Bird is expected to open for its first tenants in May 2009. Final construction is scheduled to wrap up in September 2009, said Ed Hamilton, a development partner in the southwest division of the Hanover Co. The Houston-based firm is developing the project along with partner MetLife, which owns the adjacent 22-story office tower. Altavida, which means 'high life' in Spanish, is planned to have 255 apartments, including three live-work units facing Cesar Chavez Street (shown in rendering, right). The average size unit will be 1,500 square feet, with projected average rent of $3,300 a month, Hamilton said. The tower's 36 stories include five levels of aboveground parking for its tenants. Another five levels of underground parking will be solely for additional parking for the office tower, he said. |
Anybody have a new photo?
|
I'll post a few new ones tonight.
|
|
I really like the limestone facade and the individual window fenestration. Nice photos.
|
Great shots. Really like that first one. Battle of the cranes.
|
How close is it to topping out (time)?

^^^ Depending on when these photos where taken there are still 16-17 floors to go. It will be considerably more tall than the adjacent building.
It is taking longer than a week per floor [maybe bacause it is such a wide building??]. We could be waiting another 4-6 months before it tops out. [September - November]. |
I gotta say, it's looking a lot better than I thought it would!!! Compared to all the shiny, brilliant projects going on around town, I was concerned (looking at the drawings/renderings) that it would be....."ok". But the new renderings you posted, and the exterior walls going up...........I've got to say, I am actually very impressed.
Now the Legacy at Town Lake......someone tell me it will be great (kinda looks like a Howard Johnson on steroids) |
Yea the Alta Vida Tower is going to be pretty nice looking when its finished. Its close to passing the top of 101 Congress. Not much longer now...

Here's a few shots I took yesterday evening. I really like this building. The impact is quite significant on the central core skyline.

Really nice set of photos, Mopacs. The last shot is excellent. For so long Altavida was overshadowed by 100 Congress that it wasn't making much of an impact on the skyline. But now the tables have turned. From some angles 100 Congress is hardly visible at all.
|
Thanks priller. One of the biggest impacts of the building is from the South Congress Avenue vantage point. Altavida really helps to balance out the skyline, symmetrically framing the capitol building. It always seemed a little off balance, with a larger cluster of towers on the east side of Congress. I grabbed some shots of that yesterday and will post later on in the day.
|
I agree and with the Austonian behind 101 it will even out the skyline looking down Congress to the capital.

this one reminds me of One Park Place in Houston....I really like how this is turning out....Any nighttime renders? I wonder if there will be some lighting scheme for the top of the building.

So when did this become "THE ASHTON"?
Personally, I actually like that name better. A little more class to it. |
Ahston
I'm very curious about this nighttime light as well. Can anyone divulge any information?
|
The only one image that we've seen that even hints at the lighting design is this one of The Austonian. They included The Ashton to the left. I would imagine it might look like this. Who knows.

Thanks for that Kevin. I'm sure they'll add some minor lighting to compliment the skyline :)
