St. John’s Square struggling to find construction lender during pandemic, SAHA says

The development group behind the envisioned 253-unit St. John’s Square apartments near La Villita has struggled to secure a construction lender during the pandemic, an official with the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA), which is a partner in the project, told the agency’s board last week.

The St. John’s Square apartment project, in which 253 units were going be built inside an eight-story frame on a parking lot at 410 E. Nueva St., near La Villita, appears to be shelved.

The San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) is no longer involved in the project, the agency confirmed on Friday.

Chance for something taller to be built. I know its close to La Villita, but wow that location would have amazing views of Hemisfair Park, something taller needs to be built there.

Good news, that corner is such a parking lot wasteland currently, which is insane considering its location right between King William, downtown, the river walk and Hemisfair. Though as a dues paying member of this forum I gotta complain that the current version of the design is pretty drab compared to the original, which had that art deco flair. At least the curve is interesting.

The family may be moving to San Antonio sometime in the upcoming year. Any suggestions for neighborhoods near the Lackland area??

How is offroading in that area? Lots of places nearby? Any free places like state parks??

No offroading here, there's basically no public land in Texas for you to do it on. Texas State Parks do not allow offroading either. BUreau of Land Management and the US Forest Service have plenty of public land for you to destroy in New Mexico and Colorado, however.

There's a place called Hidden Falls up in Marble Falls that I've seen people take their Jeeps/Raptors to but other than that idk.

281 Country Club :tup: There are plenty of places in the metro area and throughout the entire state of Texas to go offroading. Public land: I'm not so sure but private land: Yes, absolutely!

It was a random, inappropriate question for a dormant topic on a skyscraper forum. Did this person really expect a helpful response? Thank the good lord that you were around to save the day.

I'll say the same thing in more gentle terms: Off-roading is harmful to the ecosystem, especially when driving through streams and shallow wetlands because it is detrimental to the physical environment as well as the animals who live there. So it is not legal in many places. But if you want to do so, apparently there are more places to legally do it in New Mexico and Colorado than there are in Texas.

In any case, Romanged, I hope you and your family find a place to live where you are happy. :cheers:
