I'm curious what those parallel concrete-looking things embedded in the ground are (last photo above).

Footings for the ground level structure (?) - here is one of the supports the crane is digging up on the far right.

Denzine - good eye - those were just to assemble the large flying forms - here they are after being removed.

The area of the slab around the columns is a high stress area, so maybe the plywood is left on the slab to keep it moist giving a longer cure time. Just a WAG:shrug:

its comical how difficult its becoming in this city to build taller buildings (600ft> )as the standard.. our style of architecture needs to change and get away from the boxy squat designs into the more thinner tapering style.

XIII Jul 3, 2013 10:22 PM

When did this get shortened? I haven't seen anything on them revising the design or height.

Notyrview Jul 3, 2013 11:39 PM

What the fuck. I can't believe this got shortened.

Guiltyspark Jul 4, 2013 1:58 AM

Project rarely get revised to be taller lately. Sign of the time I guess.

Justin_Chicago Jul 4, 2013 9:06 PM

This is very disappointing since it is a prime lot in Streeterville. At least David Hovey is ambitious enough to go 60 stories on his next building.

The Lurker Jul 5, 2013 12:33 AM

Excellent news for the "Streeterville shelf"

Your tension may vary - note the different sized rebar on the inner and outer faces.

The braided copper is for lightening protection.
