I think the best contribution Ashton will make is to the shape of the skyline. It's helping to fill it out and create this nice central grouping in the skyline. Of course the W will continue that to the west (left) as well. Then when the Green Water Treatment Plant and Seaholm Power Plant redevelopments are finished out around 360 Condominiums on the west side of downtown (left), we'll probably have two major clusters of skyscrapers on the skyline.

I still haven't warmed up to the Ashton. Maybe if you chop off the last 3 rows of windows on the east side to seperate it from its neighbor, lose the billy the tugboat bridge on the top of the roof on the west side, (to me it looks like the roof over the bridge of a tugboat) give it a blue, chrome glass exterior to reflect the lake and greenbelt, then I might like it. I've been here a long time and got excited about getting some tallies like everyone else, but not just any tallies, they have to have style. I wonder if the brick will go away in 30 years like the Dobies'?

You are really wise, the Genral. Everything needs a look. I am a fan of Frosty because of the original look, that gloss, the conspiracy (Yes, great towers have many conspiracy), and height (Not everything revolves around height though).

you are wise too my friend. I like the Frost Tower for its skin and lighting. What disappoints me a tad is some of the bulkiness of the first 1/3 of it reminds me of when Austin had all those step-back regulations which took away height and slenderness which adds grace. In this case I believe Frost needs 8 - 10 more floors to accomplish a more sleek skyscraper look. The Ashton suffers from insufficient external features and proximity issues. Can you imagine if the Austonian used brick on its facade? The selling point with the Ashton as well as the architech's intent is the interior and quality of life from the inside. Since I will never see the inside, the only benefit for me is how it adds to our skyline...not very graceful. The top of the Monarch...WOW!! Top of Ashton...pfffttt!

Yes, I do not have a passion in fat chunky and stub towers.
I have gotten around the Ashton, the thing I dislike about it is because it has this boring look. Though the crown of Ashton was pretty original though, the color was good, but how much of the building it filled made it look bland, pfftt. |

Seems like this guy's done. The Ashton is starting to be in the "built" category in many sites like the diagrams here.
