What a cute little happening place!

Nice pictures! There are dozens of similar gold rush towns in the Sierra Nevada foothills in Northern California. I was born in one (Jackson) but never lived there.

Thank you for posting these photos. The Sierra foothill towns are very nice. I enjoyed mountain biking in Auburn when I went to school in Sacramento and my aunt and uncle retired to Grass Valley after living in Southern California. I am surprised more people don't retire to these foothill towns.

Looks like a great weekend trip!

Nice pictures! Sonora seems to still have a vibe of old America.

Very cool! Reminds me of Bisbee, AZ.

Thanks for the comments!
I resized the photos because today I noticed how really big they looked on my work computer, compared with how they look on my home computer, which is where I originally posted the photos. Funny how that happens. Quote:
Incidentally, on this road trip, before we ended up in Sonora, we also went to June Lake, Silver Lake, and Mono Lake in Mono County. Here are some extra pics that have nothing to do with Sonora, and are not city pictures. I regret not pulling over and taking pictures of the really tall pine forests and the pines on the mountain slopes when we were in the Sierras in Tuolumne County, but we wanted to push through to get to Sonora. The view from a rest stop somewhere off of US highway 395... Coso Junction, I believe. https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...0b&oe=5E0A94AD https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...87&oe=5DC9F6F2 June Lake, in Mono County. https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...12&oe=5E0E1702 https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...00&oe=5E00D842 The town of June Lake. https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...29&oe=5E0BC843 Silver Lake, Mono County. https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...f8&oe=5E11613D https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...45&oe=5E086051 The mountains next to Silver Lake, Mono County. https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...7b&oe=5DCC7232 https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...93&oe=5DC9DDD3 Mono Lake, in Mono County. Nice pictures. How long of a drive was it to Sonora?

Beautiful!

Well, had we driven to Sonora directly from South Pasadena/LA, it would have taken about 5.5 to 6 hours... that's how long it took us to get home when we left Sonora. This was our route: https://scontent-lax3-2.xx.fbcdn.net...a1&oe=5E03FD11 It took us many hours to get to Sonora, but we first stopped in Bishop for brunch, then when on to June Lake and then Mono Lake, and then from there went to Sonora, and then back home to South Pas. |

I travel up to Grass Valley every couple of weeks for work. It’s so beautiful up there and Nevada City. A lot of those little mountain towns along highway 49 (the Sierra foothills) are rather bohemian communities. |
great shots!
there's a very good hard cider company, Indigeny, located about halfway between Sonora and Twain Harte. it's definitely worth a visit--I'm not much of a hard cider fan, but I had to admit it was excellent. |
Nice picture thread!! Beautiful place!!

Beautiful! I have always loved these smaller western mountain towns.
