Either that or it's hyperbole, because at 816' it's nowhere near.

Really?? MLS??

I worked on that project so I should be biased, but even I think they are some of the worst tall buildings in the city. They are so bland, and the parts of them that aren't bland are just plain ugly. The only saving grace is the great massing of the podium that makes the area feel much more urban.

ya, this tower is basically a box with a triangular podium... not very balanced looking or unique imo... MLS's cladding is mediocre, but towers geometry is balanced alongside the podium...

Why not inch it up passed 1000 ft for once, they are after all planning 3 large towers shy of it.

“If we go higher, we have to implement different things that make the building stable and safe,” said Ritchie. “There’s a saw-off in terms of how high we can go before we have additional costs that maybe we can’t get back. We’d love to go higher, sure, but the math just doesn’t work.”

Toronto engineers are now planning for the next phase of highrise development where towers between 80 to 110 stories becomes the norm. It's all about making it highly cost efficient and highly profitable to build at these heights and we'll end up seeing alot more towers in this range.

It's happening now.

On my way back from the ACC I grabbed this shot

Looks like a development is planned for across the Street fro
90 Harbour, which has been renamed 1 York.

Anyone know what this development is all about?

caltrane74 Nov 24, 2011 1:21 AM

I have a rendering for 1 York

70 floors x 2 = 240 meters x 2

Previously 90 Harbour

Going to Tim Hortons now!

Different building. This is 120 harbour or 10 York.

Cal is so goofed up from the JayZ concert. :D

Must have been good times. Classic Cal!

Well there were 16 articles regarding the launch of this tower yesterday. And that's before it's even gone to sales. Wonder how long it will take for them to sell this one out.

Another article this one regarding the design and height of 10 York.

I know a lot of people will say they don't like this building and it's just another box, but i really like it. I think the proportions - height and width really work well. I don't know if it could be much taller and be proportioned. I like box buildings that are slender and soar and i think, barring finish and materials that the exterior will be interesting.

For me, this could be one of my favorite Toronto buildings. As i have said before, i really don't like Trump and think it turned out really poorly from what it had a chance of being.

I can't wait to see what the facade ends up looking like and hope there are no changes to its proportions.

caltrane74 Nov 26, 2011 2:25 PM

It looks as though it will be a very classy building. The height is a bonus.

Toronto is a beast, love it!

DrNest Jan 19, 2012 3:59 PM

That last rendering Caltrane74 posted looks great. It's a difficult plot of land within which to design a good looking building, but this definitely works.
Looking forward to seeing the final thing.

LeftCoaster Jan 19, 2012 6:34 PM

The last rendering Cal posted was a prelim design that got shot down by the city. The current plans can be found in the first post.

DrNest Jan 19, 2012 7:31 PM

Pity, because I prefer the design of the roof from the the preliminary rendering. However, that said, the cladding and walls of the latest design look much better in my opinion.
