According to the CPC meeting, it was suppose to be 28 stories but was lowered to 23 stories because of the budget. No mention of the height…so, I’m just gonna assume that 689 ft is definitely a mistake as well.

Height will depend on the floor plate size. If the floor plates in the Travis were twice the size, the tower would be half the height with the same number of units. |
There's a lot of development going on downtown in terms of renovations of older properties. One of the largest amount of rehabs in the country (top 3). Dallas is the only major Texas city to have a neighborhood like Uptown right next to the CBD, so it will be a different animal than somewhere like Houston or Austin, but downtown does continue to grow.

https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...ns-skyscraper/ (Yet somehow the Commerce/Harwood project is testing even that idea as it's had a crane uselessly sitting at it for over a year. The only real concrete project in that list is the first one of course because it's almost done.) |

Having Uptown and Downtown next to each other but in competition is both a blessing and a curse, but I think it's more positive than negative. If Uptown didn't exist, Downtown would not be any less obsolete and the core would instead be losing out to Frisco, not to a neighborhood that's on the other side of a highway less than a half a mile away.
Uptown keeps workers and tax revenue in the city. Also 30 years from now, Uptown might itself be getting out of date and by that time Downtown may have transformed into something else. |
Just thought it would be cool to show these Google streevtiew screenshots from the Slyvan Ave Bridge over the Trinity River Floodplain. You can see the highrise infill in Victory Park, Uptown, the Design District, and Harwood District. Soon, probably Turtle Creek too once all the projects planned start.
