Also the Lathrop Buildings look OK. Consider these aren't new buildings, but renovation of public housing. All things considered, it looks fine but that's because of the quality of the windows. If this was a brand new building, then whatever but it's a renovation of public housing.

What I posted was a new building...

Speaking of UIC, does anyone know when construction begins on the new performing arts center along the Eisenhower?

Probably awhile... they only awarded the job to OMA in May. To go through a full design process and get a permit on a project of that magnitude would probably take 16-18 months.

And that’s assuming UIC already has the funding to pay full design fees and the construction cost... if there are any issues or even hiccups with funding, expect a longer timeline.

The good news is that, as a combination of state funding and philanthropy, this project is probably well-insulated from economic cycles. Everyone seems to think a recession is coming, but it probably won’t affect this project much if any.

I believe they are still in the fundraising phase for that project.

ardecila Dec 2, 2019 6:56 PM

^ Well there you have it... I wasn't sure if the new state capital bill would fund this project in full.

Often the private fundraising is a relatively small part of the overall project budget, so they will start the wheels in motion even without a fundraising commitment.

I don't know if anyone else on this forum is as happy as I am (probably LGarri4) that Google Earth FINALLY updated their Chicago model to an early 2019 model. We FINALLY have River Point, 150 N Riverside, NEMA (u/c), Essex (u/c), Vista (u/c) and many new skyline-altering towers on their 3D model of the city. Rejoice!
