It's a long term plan, I don't see it all happening right away but I'm sure it will happen. Partly out of necessity, because the road is starting to become dangerously deficient as traffic grows. IMO it's not like it's some hyper ambitious and expensive plan either, it's fairly modest.

Like, ever? If yes, that’s sad.

Otherwise, any way to get federal cash for this? Or does it happen if ever traffic from Kenora and points east grows big time?

bomberjet Nov 8, 2019 6:02 PM

It can only be done with federal funding. The PM and Premier are meeting or have met. Hopefully this made it on the agenda as a life safety issue.

This is a long term project that will be done piece by piece. They've started by closing median openings. Not sure what the next piece is. But seem the McGillivray location as the top of list.

There are also plans to install street lighting over the entire length.

Also, will widening the 100 from 4 to 6 lanes address the issue of deficient median? By Ontarian standards, some parts are more or less like a 4-lane undivided roadway.

Yes, that is part of the plan too. Essentially the plan is to overhaul the 100 half of the Perimeter to something resembling modern standards. I think it's a given that it will happen, the only question is how long will it take. 5 years? 10? 20? 40?

After 60+ years, finally some action.

On a further note, even if it takes 2-3 centuries to get TCH upgraded from coast to coast, I’m happy lol.

For what it's worth there was pretty steady progress on the Perimeter from when it first partially opened right up until the late 80s when the cloverleaf at 101/7 was built. Then after that the next major improvement was completion of the NE loop in the late 90s, and then really nothing tangible after that until the new (and somewhat lightly used) 101/CCW interchange was built and the long delayed 101/59 interchange rebuild opened.

So there was a bit of a dead stretch with no real improvements from about 1997-2017. Now it's a matter of making up for lost time.

bomberjet Nov 8, 2019 6:26 PM

There are cross sections in the conceptual plans showing what the median would look like. Median widening is a major part of the project. If all of this were to actually get done, the corridor will be unrecognizable to what is there now.

Speaking of American, make sure to make good comments about Highway 75 too. Interstate standards, as MIT promised.

Ding ding ding! It's today! Go if you want your loved ones (yourselves included) to have a safe, smooth and swift travel along the south Perimeter Highway.

Ps: I still think that the interchange at Perimeter Highway & TCH (Fermor Avenue) should see a flyover from TCH W to 100 W and from 101S to TCH E. This may also require the intersection at Deacon's Corner to be converted to an interchange in conjunction. As for Perimeter Highway @ Portage Avenue, IMO it should be left as is until Headingley Bypass is built and operational.

I hope that I don't have to spam you guys for the next while. ;)

^ With all that enthusiasm is it safe to presume that you'll be in town for tonight's open house? ;)

If someone can pull off a video conference, sure. :notacrook:

Looked at segment 1 and they've selected the preferred design. No more options. Portage gets a diverging diamond.
