All poured and ready for some steel:

It was long said it would be this way and I reposted Peanut once, but I get tired of people's resistance to go back through threads to see history. |

If such exists, it would still be worth seeing. There was the bit that was kind of cryptic about mixed construction but not really laying it out. Third/4th hand sources can be and often are wrong so probably not worth searching for. So anyway, from the vantage point of the construction cam, 2 things strike me: 1. The cross section of the upper tower looks like the usable/rentable space to core ratio is awfully low (i.e. big core, not much space around it), especially if you consider some of what space there is will be taken up by those balconies or whatever you call them on many floors; 2. The anchor plates for steel columns don't look very robust for a tower section that's not only pretty tall but whose center of gravity is not centered on the structure (that is, the overhang shifts the cog toward that side of the building). I guess it depends on that relatively massive core to hold everything up. Altogether a strange building. |
This building isn't looking like anything from the rendering from the front page (rounded vs. straight edges).. was there a change in design?

Here's the full redesign, as first posted at the bottom of Page 1.
http://sfocii.org/sites/default/file...emoAttach1.pdf It is much discussed on Page 2 and has these links to the developers, the second one with a video. http://news.theregistrysf.com/park-t...san-francisco/ http://www.parktowerattransbay.com |

After a brief comb of the thread, I've compiled the following:
Evidence For Steel System Post 40: peanut gallery links to the SF Business Times article, which contains an image from the developer's approved proposal stating "Concrete Construction: B2-L12; Steel Construction: L13-L45." Post 108: minesweeper links directly to the approved proposal at SF Planning, page 50 - the same diagram used in the SF Business Times. Post 169: simms3_redux offers details regarding the larger concrete floorplates versus the upper steel floors that factored in the award of the project. No specific source given, but simms3's info is always insidery and usually correct. Post 271: Jerry of San Fran downloads floor plans from the Park Tower website which show I-beam symbols above floor 11. Post 274: my link to the developer's press release stating that the superstructure system combines both concrete and steel framing. Apparently too braggadocious to be believed. Evidence Against Steel System: Too many posts to mention: Pedestrian's opinion. Well, there you have it - based on the sheer volume of argument, it is clear that Pedestrian has been correct this whole time. There will be no steel in this tower. |
^^OK, OK--nice work both of you.
So anyway, I just wish I liked this building more. It's going to have a pivotal location overlooking the only ground level park in the area but the funky overhang/sliced block thing just doesn't do it for me. The rest--balconies and so on--is OK. Those will be interesting to look at from below but I'd love to know how much they really get used here in the "cool gray city of love" where sitting outdoors in our gentle zephyrs can require a parka. |

I think mt_climber13 is wakamesalad reincarnated? |
Thanks for the thorough review botoxic; it is much appreciated! I think the balconies are going to be very popular, as I've stated previously. The building will be different, yet interesting in the mix of things.

I'm sure it's been posted before but I'm too lazy to dig. Does anyone know what color the glass is going to be and how transparent?

View from Beale St.
I walked down Beale St. today & got a view of the construction progress. I-beams should be seen soon!
The overpass in the foreground is Harrison St. The view will be disappear after the temporary transit center closes & new construction happens. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4416/...b20115fe_c.jpgPark Tower View from Beale Street. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4357/...7599c85f_c.jpgView from the Beale Street of Park Tower construction. |
Looks like maybe they need to get the core a couple of floors higher before beginning to erect steel.

Definitely. But, the core can't get too far ahead of the steel. Otherwise, the crane can't be raised high enough for the growing core, without securing it to the steel. |
Salesforce looked like this exactly one year ago today. I expect the process for Park Tower will be similar.

Looks like 11/43 floors are completed according to the time lapse cam.

Nice angle
