Nice design.

Looks like the surface parking lot has been totally cleared.

Curbed is reportin that they are breaking ground.

As for SF density, Yes SF is very dense, particularly for an American city. But no, that doesn't mean there isn't PLENTY of room to grow. Just for comparison, Paris is 40.7 square miles; population: 2.2 million. SF is 47 square miles; population: 825K (2013 estimate).

Even if we didn't build any towers, there is plenty of surface parking lot and former industrial/military space to add housing and office space. I blame the shit-show planning process and psycho NIMBYS.

I really like the massing of this building. It's amazing how much aesthetic value a few small setbacks add for comparatively little loss in leasable floorspace value. The pattern of the mullions is great too, and if they're proud of the glass (which appears to be the case per the rendering), it should be a very lively and elegant facade.

I walked by yesterday and can confirm they are preparing the site for excavation. There was at least one Cat on hand, moving dirt around.

simms3_redux Aug 25, 2013 7:09 AM

They are definitely doing site prep - but it's still only one excavator, no pile driver, etc. They aren't going "full on" yet.

Cheers to another surface parking lot biting the dust!

With Malcolm onsite, I'm guessing excavation will start moving much faster.

Pictures taken 10/13/2013.

They are digging more quickly now, with several escavators on-site, a retaining wall being built, and Malcom Cement mixer still on-site.

Excavation was continuing in earnest on Friday morning. A full-sized dump truck was being filled about every 5 minutes:

If not now, this thing can be moved to construction soon. I'll send a request since it appears that the foundation was poured and permanent steel is being laid. I suspect a tower crane will appear soon.

I have to be honest, though. I hadn't passed by in a while and I whole heartedly expected this thing to have no progress whatsoever. My thought was that if there were any casualties in this cycle, this would be it. This is due to timing, Tishman's current development allocation to this market, and other reasons, not the least of which was reported by the Biz Times last week - CBS Interactive is apparently pulling out of Foundry III! LinkedIn was going to more than backfill its space (200,000 SF), so now LinkedIn is back on the market for space elsewhere and Tishman has more than 100,000 SF to lease at Foundry III.

Anyway, here are the pics:

I will say, though, that I walked around between 4 and 5 on Thursday and all the sites were highly active except for this one, which didn't have any workers on-site.

mt_climber13 Jan 24, 2014 5:10 AM

Another BOOM for SF. :skyhighmind:

shakman Jan 24, 2014 5:27 PM

Yay!!! Work on the foundation has commenced. Thanks for the post.

simms3_redux Jan 30, 2014 4:36 AM

I got a good aerial glimpse of the site today (really wish I could say where, but let's just say there will be some awesome photos posted in "retrospect"), and there was mega movement. A huge crawler crane was in the hole, which I think is a sign that a tower crane is imminent. I will monitor, but between the pics above and a tower crane, there is no denying this will be UC, even by SSP standards.

mt_climber13 Jan 30, 2014 6:08 AM

San Francisco, New York, and Calgary are dominating the UC threads right now!
