Right now they may be above ground level on the 1st floor. I'm not sure though. The crane is max by now.

New Austin courthouse brings hope

Quote:

The Austin legal community is looking forward to a more efficient federal courthouse in 2012, while some merchants near Republic Square, where the new courthouse is under construction, are hoping to see a boost when it comes online.

The single biggest advantage for those with federal legal business to conduct will be the technology, lawyers said.

“The [current] courthouse is so old that the courtrooms haven’t been modernized, although the judges are good about letting us put up screens,” said Matt Dow, managing partner of Jackson Walker LLP’s Austin office. “You have to send people over with a laptop and a projector. It will be nice to take a DVD and pop it in.”

Dow is also anticipating breakout rooms to consult with clients and a full-service café. “The current one is in the dungeon.”

Acoustics are also a challenge at the old courthouse, said Kevin Collins, a lawyer in the environmental department at Baker Botts LLP. And he is looking forward to the use of natural light.
