Ugly

AndrewK Apr 1, 2008 6:43 PM

that is utterly ridiculous.

Steely Dan Apr 1, 2008 7:10 PM

this is clearly the wild fantastical vision of some architect and not a real proposal with a real development team backing it. as such, i moving this thread to the buildings and architecture thread because this is not a bona fide proposal for a real or serious project.

and i'd have to agree with the other two posters, whatever the hell that thing is supposed to be, it's god-awful ugly.

SLO Apr 1, 2008 8:01 PM

wow, do we have a hall of shame....

Saddle Man Apr 1, 2008 9:08 PM

Eew.

M II A II R II K Apr 1, 2008 11:19 PM

It looks like one of those things that activate or have something rise out of it when certain astronomical phenomena are at play.

Lecom Apr 1, 2008 11:59 PM

Uhh... is that a human spine?

Reminiscence Apr 2, 2008 6:00 AM

Well this is certainly a retractible proposal. Something like this would get so much resistance from the community, it would probably ruin the architect for life. It almost looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.

dimondpark Apr 2, 2008 7:24 PM

not to worry,
Oakland is notoriously successful at making sure tall proposals never see the light of day.

zilfondel Apr 2, 2008 9:44 PM

Looks like some hack ripped off Paolo Soleri. In a really, really bad way.

Anyways, I'm sure the average 3-year old could come up with a better design than this.

Anyways, this would be a good reason not to attend the U of O.

Rise To The Top Apr 2, 2008 9:52 PM

Should be re-named Eyesore-In-The-Sky

Zerton Apr 3, 2008 12:54 AM

Without the crystal part at the bottom it's kind of cool.

Goody Apr 3, 2008 1:44 AM

what the fuck? nasty

roadwarrior Apr 3, 2008 2:43 AM

Did somebody use Photoshop to superimpose a Dubai proposal into the Oakland skyline?

JDRCRASH Apr 3, 2008 6:24 PM

It looks like something that should be built on Mars.

thesunsetdist Apr 3, 2008 7:00 PM

U G L Y

Amanita Apr 3, 2008 8:01 PM

As a sci-fi building, it looks cool. However, it also looks completely out of place in Oakland. Or almost anywhere else on earth.

M.K. Apr 3, 2008 8:11 PM

I am sorry people, but I liked. Seems a E.T. Spine but ok, of course in Dubai. The crystal star at botom seems an angel with a huge spine one-eye at top, but I think the earth deserves more structures like this... :P but please do not hit me.

Diamond Mason Apr 3, 2008 10:07 PM

Wow!

Hey everyone.

I've been coming on this site for about 3 or 4 years now. I'm not an architect or developer or anything, just a regular guy who has always had an interest and appreciation for good buildings. I generally just come here to see what's new in the world and what may or may not get built. I've never really felt the need to comment on anything......... until I saw this......

Good God Damn that's an ugly building!!!! It looks like a mosquito had sex with an old hippies spine. Then the spine took acid and sat in a cave for a few thousand years and stalagmites grew from the base. After that a gypsy placed her magic crystal ball and the bottom and....presto!!!!.. out pops this hideous monstrosity.

I know there is no way in hell this would ever get built but DAMN!

Wrightguy0 Apr 3, 2008 10:59 PM

I know people who have had acid trips that are less freaky than whatever the hell that is

That achitect must have gotten his hands on some really bad weed

ZOMG I know what it is It's a Tri Pod from War of the Worlds :/

oak-sea Apr 4, 2008 5:01 AM

So I was on a blog called Inhabitat and saw this:
http://www.inhabitat.com/wp-content/...tima-tower.jpg
And I thought I saw something in the image of a tower going up in Oakland called "Eye In The Sky", so I googled it and came up with this SSP thread. W T F-ing F??? :haha:

M.K. Apr 4, 2008 2:59 PM

I saw this also near Jeddah Red Sea, but maybe already another Arabic Phantasy, not even a Vision, seems to me a Russian Rocket, who knows.... :haha: :haha: :haha:

MasonsInquiries Apr 4, 2008 4:14 PM

that tower looks like the tip of someone's foreskin.......LMAO!!!

Wrightguy0 Apr 6, 2008 11:19 AM

These things are hideous, monstrous like the end result of a verey bad bender
Hwoever this Eugine Tsui is, well, he's not very good, actually one might say, craptacular.

Fugly.

If you are going to build an eye-in-the-sky, get it right:

So true. Now that was a classy tower. Evil, but classy.

Dac150 May 18, 2008 4:40 PM

This is an example of 'a person who as a lot of time on their hands' at its best. It's a joke, and so is the person who came up with this. I mean, who in their right mind would look at this and take it seriously.

M II A II R II K May 18, 2008 4:57 PM

I could photoshop some monstrosity into a skyline picture and make a thread out of that.

Which is probably pretty close to what happened here.

Who in their right mind would come up with something like that in the first place is a better question.

Brilliant description. Thanks for a good laugh.

Another thing is how the heck did Oakland get picked for that piece of $h!t anyway.

hamo Jun 22, 2008 3:53 PM

I knew about this one before, and I read that it was 600m tall.
Strange

But that doesn't matter, it's still realy ugly

seriously what the hell goes through eugene tsui's mind when he designs all this CRAP! why did he even try this?

JDRCRASH Feb 15, 2009 12:51 AM

He evidently thought people would share his tastes.:haha:

photoLith Mar 11, 2009 3:11 AM

Wow, whoever designed this must have just barely passed architecture school. Or they were tripping their balls off. Im pretty sure this thing would totally destroy the bay area. Everyone would leave because they wouldnt be able to stand to look at that thing everyday. People would have nightmares and then the murder rate would skyrocket!

JSantos May 22, 2009 5:21 AM

What the hell is this? How can this not be an April fool's joke.

XLucky4LifeX Jun 11, 2009 6:46 AM

This shit reminds me of those launch freefall rides in Theme Parks.
With a stupid timer or speaker at the top, and some decoration or station at the bottom, and curved tracks.
It's like it falls down once there is a 3.0+ earthquake and becomes a bridge to San Francisco!
WOOOHOOO build it and see if that happens!
