Nice set!
How big are the beaches on the river? And I wish my city had funky bike racks like these; https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3888/...3ee2afa3ff.jpgIMG_7830 by echoes320, on Flickr |
Nice thread! Other than the chateau style building, Saskatoon and Minnesota seem to be drawn from almost the exact same architectural palette. It is almost eerie.

Also I would assume that in Saskatoon houses would be very cheap? |
Wow! What an absolutely fantastic tour of a beautiful city.

The Toon looks superb here. Great photothread.

Handsome little city. I really need to give the prairie cities a proper visit one day.

Nice photo tour! I enjoyed it

Great job...Toon town looks like a real gem of the Canadian Prairies..Again great photos.

Fascinating tour and city! Saskatoon looks very nice and green by Summer. The contrast between Summer and Winter there is very high. I love those kind of cities.
By the way, many houses are spectacular. I would love living there. Thanks for sharing and greetings from Madrid, Spain. |

ckom.com https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3905/...53d3b784cf.jpg gerryporter.blogspot.com Saskatoon beaches can vary in size depending how high the river is varying from Spring to Fall and what part of river you choose to go too.. If you want km or more of expansive sand bars in the river for a beach, just 5 or 10 kms south of the city is a good place to go.. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3892/...fb960e2696.jpg www.canoeski.com https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3863/...79da10e372.jpg www.canoeski.com |
Nice pictures. the first one reminds me a little bit of Buffalo.
I always wonder and am amazed at how people in northern cities enjoy their short summers and warm seasons. How is the sand at these river beaches? Is it sandy and granular, or is it dusty and dirty at all? |
Quote:
The wonderful thing about river beaches is the sand is uniform powdery fine, perfect for walking in and no stones or rocks, the river insures that sand is sorted with finest sand on top, and if its too dusty it just gets blown away or forms into dunes:tup: if you are really interested in what sand is like in Saskatchewan check out these other sandy areas of the province https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIpcg1NUmqs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mvrt2kbrUmY |
Wow, I had absolutely no idea what that city looked like. These are fantastic

Is the "gothic" building one of those Canadian Pacific Railroad hotels?
|
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I appreciate it!

Man, I really ought to head back to Saskatoon. I haven't been in years and even when I was in your city, it was always very briefly. The city definitely looks cool, quirky, and modern, like a mini Edmonton.
|
Summer in the city, good to see. Thanks for the tour.
|
Enjoyable post. Canadian summers are the best.
|
Spectacular shots. Only in Canada and the northern states do I see this level of vibrancy come warm weather, as if everything is reawakening. It's always a pleasure to see your threads, Saskatchewan is an underrated gem.
|
Interesting place. according to Wikipedia it has rather high rates of crime and disease by Canada's standards. What's the population like, including ethnically? Has the feel of a Midwestern US town, but the slightly more stylish women give away the fact that we're not in the US anymore ;)
|
that was just lovely. the stoon sure shines with its streetscaping efforts! thanks for sharing :)

Nice pics!

It's true. There's almost a celebratory buzz in the air come spring. Spring fever...Especially after a long winter...Summer festivals, local beaches, and bbq's/outdoor parties in Canada are popular and everybody gets up for them.. The only comparison that comes to mind would be what I sense happens in the Savannah after a long drought when the rainy season comes in. Not to say that winter is an entirely bad thing..Nice sunny wintery days can be invigorating when you are outside on a trail or just a walk. |
I'm hoping you'll treat us to a 2015 edition!
|
Oh summer.... Looks like a pleasant city!
|
Splendid! I like the Saskatoon's summer spirit.

2015 just didn't pan out for me. |
wistful.
these photos almost have a utopic 1970s "endless summer" vibe about them. they seem to capture a sort of innocence-lost that many middle american cities once had before the crack and running away shadow-times, gone like the elms in the states. dem elms. lovely. |
Your photos are precious. because I;ve decided to pay a real visit after seeing them.

I've always been drawn to nostalgia - be it in music, film, art - and evidently, photography. Thanks. |
This set makes me very happy. Also I love the infill, and that the people on the rocks look as small as ants!
