Is it possible that they're planning on changing the NW Everett hotel from a Homewood Suites to a Canopy? Or are Hilton really developing three new hotels in central Portland?

1. The Curio
2. Canopy
3. What is the 3rd?

Homewood Suites is a Hilton brand.

MarkDaMan Oct 15, 2014 8:25 PM

^I think the hotel brand is a Hampton Inn (by Hilton) planned on NW Everett...but since they had to dump so much money into the design (the initial proposal had window A/C units!), maybe they decided to upgrade it to the new brand?

Would be great if they were actually building two hotels in the Pearl though!

New Hiltons

Curio is going in at 218 SW Jefferson. This hotel at NW 9th and Everett may be the new Canopy hotel: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/bds/article/506176

I didn't see a brand identified with the application.

My mistake, got Hampton by Hilton confused with Homewood Suites by Hilton. Anyway, point remains - either they're changing the brand of the NW Everett hotel, or Hilton have three properties under development. I think the former is more likely.

Well, it looks like this is a different project to the Hampton Inn:

Pearl District set to welcome a high-end hotel

Already at work on a new high-end hotel in downtown Portland at 218 S.W. Jefferson St., Hilton Worldwide will begin work on a second new hotel in 2015.
This one's set for the Pearl District.

Located at Northwest Glisan Street and Northwest Ninth Avenue, the hotel will be part of Hilton's new Canopy by Hilton brand, which aims to offer upper-end accommodations with local flair.

Awesome! Getting more lodging in the Pearl will be good for the district.

Nice! Especially at that location, a sleepy part of the Pearl District. I'm picturing it next to Hive, the furniture store? Hopefully taking over a parking lot.

The link does show a parking lot on the SE corner ... let's hope for a nice high rise there! Haha not holding my breath. But yet another hotel will do wonders for the North Park Blocks area.

maccoinnich Nov 3, 2014 9:14 PM

My initial assumption was that it would be the Hive space, however Hive have just undergone a big refurbishment. That perspective clearly shows the 937 building, so I'm thinking it must be replacing the single story warehouse across the street from the 937.

downtownpdx Nov 3, 2014 9:33 PM

Wish it was the parking lot, but I guess the warehouse is no big loss

Curious about the exact footprint. Isn't there an Albina Community Bank right there?

Yes on Glisan and 10th. On Glisan and 9th the warehouse is a quarter block. South of the warehouse you get into the Elizabeth Leach gallery and another 2 story building that has an art gallery on bottom and housing on top.

There is, but according to PortlandMaps, that building was sold in January for $2,851,800, and is now owned by ONE PACIFICCOAST BANCORP INC of Oakland, California. That seems like a lot of money to pay for 10,000 sq ft of retail space.

maccoinnich Nov 4, 2014 9:01 PM

So it's located on the Partners In Time space.

Name behind the Pearl's new Hilton is a familiar one

Just as the Hilton name is a pretty familiar one, so too is the name of the commercial real estate firm behind the hotel chain's latest Portland hotel that will rise up in the Pearl District next year.

Menashe Properties, a three-decades-old Portland real estate investment and management company, is one of the lead partners on the new hotel project. Part of Hilton's new Canopy by Hilton brand, the hotel will be built on a quarter-block that Menashe Properties owns at Northwest Glisan Street and Ninth Avenue.

Jordan Menashe, who has worked with his father, Barry Menashe, on investment deals for the past four years, said the building that housed the Partners In Time antique store is on the property, which is bordered by Albina Bank to the west.
