Sorry.. this is not 60 floors.. Not sure how many floors there are

Thanks for creating the thread, I was going to suggest somebody do it.

I love the design of this tower. Also, as others have pointed out in the SF development thread, the renders show 44 floors plus a crown, so this may end up being closer to 500'/152m tall.

It's beautiful. Yet another building with sky gardens in the Transbay district. I like this trend.

tech12 - that would be good news!

This looks nice and unique, and hopefully it survives the planning gauntlet. This is apparently a triangular lot, and there is already an existing triangular building along Clementina St:

Here is the generic massing of the tower (lower right) that shows how it'll fit on the lot:

This is a beautiful tower.
When SOMA is built out, the SF skyline is (finally) going to be world class. So. many. good. designs!

I wish I could agree but it is becoming a City of low rise 400-500 footers.

In what crazy world are 400 and 500 ft. towers "low rise"?

I love the massing of the proposed tower.

Definitely. I'm thinking that maybe the total height of the building is the 400 foot tower + the 85 foot podium, which would come out to 485 feet. That seems to fit for 44 stories plus a crown...but the height limit there is only 400 feet (plus another 100 for a crown/spire). I wonder what the deal is with that.

lol seriously. Maybe the skythelimit lives in an alternate universe where every highrise is a supertall.

I love the massing of the proposed tower.

I do travel quite frequently and off the top of my head, Dubai, Shangahi, NY ect.. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. I also like the cluster and from the street view, it will look more urban.

There is a world outside of SF and other cities, Shangahi, Beijing, Jeddah are doing some interesting stuff with height and design. So, as I travel Internatinal at least six times a year to these and other cities, they are impressive. No alternate universe. Born, raised and live in SF.

Most skyscrapers in those cities are not supertalls though, and the same is even more true for the vast majority of other cities on the planet. Most reasonable people would not call a 400 or 500 foot building a "low rise", or a 300 or 200 foot building, or even a 100 foot building. In the context of North America, buildings of about 10-12 stories and up are usually considered to be high rises. Low rises on the other hand are usually considered to be under 6 stories I'd say, with mid rises filling the gap between them and highrises. Take a look at the descriptions for the development forums on this very site: 115' and up is considered a highrise.

These got posted in the rundown thread a while back, but I figure I'd bring them over here, since this project should break ground this year.

Very nice! Looking at that last rendering, the little existing triangular building is going to lose all its southern exposure. I know they should be glad they had it while they did, but damn that's a dramatic change. I hope they don't try to slow this down.

tall/awkward Mar 4, 2014 3:20 AM

Definitely looks like a good 45 stories to me, and at least 460-470 feet, though I would love to see it join the 500 club.

peanut gallery Mar 10, 2014 6:05 AM

JK Dineen mentioned in an article about neighboring Block 8 that:

Quote:

...Avant Housing and equity partner Essex Property Trust were tapped to build a 400-foot tower on Block 9 in the Transbay District, a 563-unit project that could break ground this year.
Not exactly a report of imminent construction, but sounds optimistic nonetheless.

What is interesting is that the eastern portion of that building, which will abut the highrise portion, is windowless, it is only the western lowrise portion which will block the few windows that the triangular building has. In the massing images posted above, that portion of the lot is left open, but has been filled in in the more recent renderings.

I'm not sure how definitive this is, but the SOM website lists this project as 440 feet tall:

Click "Project Facts" on the lower right.

Finally some evidence that construction may start in the near future:

It appears the base has been redesigned and some materials changed.
