{SA} 12-Story Hotel Planned for Stone Oak

Quote:

A well-known name in the hotel business is extending its stay in San Antonio.

Cape Girardeau, Mo.-based Drury Southwest Inc. has begun construction on a new Drury Plaza hotel. The 12-story, 196-room property will be located along Loop 1604 and Sigma Road on the city's far North Side in the Stone Oak area.

At 12 stories, the new Drury Plaza won't be tough to spot.

It will be located in an area that has already proven itself as a prime hospitality site -- given the success of the Drury Inn & Suites that is located next door to the Drury Plaza now under development.

As stated above, this will be a Drury Plaza hotel (their luxury brand) like their one downtown, though with a more modern look.

Is the one at 1604/I10 an Inn & Suites or a Plaza?

sakyle04 May 3, 2008 1:22 PM

Sigma Road?

Must be up next to Krispy Kreme and all of the 5 story hotels between 281 and Stone Oak Blvd....?

Inn and Suites.

This will be the first Plaza outside of downtown.

Yeah. It looks like it'll be built adjacent to their (Drury) Inn and Suites that's already at that intersection.

Is this the same as the Drury brand hotel that was under construction at or near La Cantera at 5806 Interstate 10? The start date on that was 2006. And if not, what's the status on that hotel? Is it finished yet?

Thanks for posting this, I'll add it to Emporis if it is a different project.

Different hotel. The Drury at I-10/1604 is under construction and is rising quickly. Drove by it the other day and it looked to be on the 5th or 6th floor, but only the 1st floor above an above-ground parking garage. Could get pretty tall with that kind of parking....

How tall is that hotel near La Cantera suppose to be?

Thanks. I'll have to add it later though, because Emporis is having issues.

12 stories...223 rooms.

Wait, I'm confused. The hotel rooms are built on top of the parking garage? And if so, is the 12 stories including or not including the garage??

sirkingwilliam May 6, 2008 4:45 AM

The Drury Plaza in Stone Oak will also be built with a 5 story garage built on top of the first two floors, lobby and check in, with the remaining 5 stories on top of the garage being hotel rooms.

it would seem to include the garage.

the concept is interesting. more interesting will be how they use a facade to cover it up and make it look decent.

sirkingwilliam May 6, 2008 6:15 PM

So two 10+ story buildings are under construction in the Stone Oak area.

Boquillas May 6, 2008 6:41 PM

Are you sure the 12 floors includes parking? 223 rooms for five floors equals 45 rooms per floor. Doesn't that seem a bit high? The GH has 1003 rooms in 21 floors for a rate of 48 rooms per floor, but it has a much larger floorplate.

good question....

here are a sampling of other drury san antonio properties:

WURZBACH/I-10 Number of Floors: 8 • Number of Rooms: 210
RIVERWALK Number of Floors: 24 • Number of Rooms: 306
1604/281 Number of Floors: 6 • Number of Rooms: 119

so, assuming 6 floors of hotel, 5 of parking, and 1 of lobby/conference (total 12)....they would need 37 rooms per floor.

When passing by over 1604 and I10 it looks like there are rooms in the same floor as the lobby/conference... it looks like a small lobby..

next time if anyone stuck in traffic over in the area take a look in to the first floor and you can see the lobby.
