Height isn't official, just verbal info passed over the phone about 12 ft. floor-to-floor etc.

Pulled out of the City Compilations Dallas-Fort Worth Superthread dealio here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=7647

Background on The House (http://www.thehouse.com):
- Ground level retail on all sides including a grocery store, parkade above that, then 22 floors of residences on top of a podium with a 'Starck Park.'
- Current 'Victory Park' construction surrounding this site is The W Dallas Victory Hotel & Residences North & South Towers, The Terrace, The Vista, The Cirque, and the Victory Plaza West and East Buildings.
- Coming up in 'Victory Park' around this site during it's construction will be One Victory Park Tower, Victory Park (common area,) Dallas Museum of Nature & Science (perhaps later on this one,) and One Victory Tower/Mandarin Oriental International and the remainder of the Victory 'D' Superblock. (Possibly also Two Victory Park Tower, but, I really don't know if that will be pushed to a later date or not.)

Who's Involved:
- Philippe Starck (http://www.philippe-starck.com/)
- Yoo (http://www.yooarehere.com/)
- Elkus Manfredi (http://www.elkus-manfredi.com/)
- Victory Park Dallas (http://www.victorypark.com)

I figured since no one else local or otherwise started up a thread on this one, I'd at least drop the roots for it. Construction is scheduled to begin late Spring '06 or early Summer '06.

not too daring architecturally but with Mr. Starck involved, i'm sure the interiors will have the "wow" factor.

Dallas has got to get out of the habit of building all its structures on top of pedestals. The building would be okay but for the pedestal.

"Pedestals" are the Vancouver model for urbanism. A fine way to do things in cities with larger blocks. Allows maximum use of the block.

I think the podiums are very cool looking, what is the alternative? Underground parking is way to expensive, regular parking garages thats lame and this boosts the height by standing on top of it.

underground parking is expensive, but significantly better aethetically and does not, like the podium, become a hindsight issue.

Is that One Victory Park on the left?

Is that One Victory Park on the left?
No, that's Victory Tower. One Victory Park will be in the parking lot at the bottom left of the rendering immediately in front of the small park in front of The House.
Check out the Master Plan on Victory's website (in the "Vision" menu):

Im pretty sure allot of the urban towers across the country are being built on "podiums"

They don't bother me a bit....some have really cool restaurants and larger lobbies because of podiums. We've got plenty of towers without them.

podiums are fine...if they are active. Again they can be done right, but usually are not*

It is certainly better than some towers in Dallas just outside of downtown that have no podium at all ... they just rise straight out of a parking lot like your local strip mall ... that looks ridiculous.

what buildings?

what buildings? The first time I noticed it was at a company event at what used to be the Stouffer Hotel (the lipstick building) -- I think now a Mariott -- off of I-35 (I used to work in the Oak Lawn area). One of those moments where I wondered to myself as I got out of my car in the parking lot ... what makes them decide to build a tall building in the middle of all this land? ... especially if they're just going to pave most of it. As someone interested in that kind of stuff (my poor wife), I noticed it with more frequency with buildings along I-35, I-635 and a few on Central Expressway.
