This is what a person uses as an example to support their argument of "skyscrapers are boring." This is cut and paste the whole way up.

^^It's true. I can't say I'll be paying much attention to this developement, since so are so many other (bigger) ones going on. Pretty nice design for a residential anyway.

The design by itself is alright. If they pick just the right materials, it may end up looking good.

It has very overt floor separations which I like because it will accentuate the human scale of the building, and therefore the height.

man i sometimes wonder what ben franklin would think if he saw modern day philadelphia, but a more practical and realistic thought is: i wonder what the hookers on 8th ave from a few decades ago do think of modern day 8th ave. (then again i guess that thought would pale compared to times square past and present. ehh, never mind me, i think this tower is okaaay and its name is weak.)

JACKinBeantown
Sep 8, 2005, 2:49 PM
I think it's just OK too. The fact that I like the floor separation is a plus, but the basic shape of the building is pretty much a box with a smaller box on top. At least it's not just a one-colored glass box with no detail.

JACKinBeantown

Actually I just counted 44. I think there are two floors at the bottom instead of one. Compare the short grey part to the blue part and you'll see what I mean.

I'm not surprised. I have a tendency to suppress the ground floor. French way of thinking.

I haven't exactly been on the go about keeping up with this building. I apologize for that. I still don't have any specific report, but I did notice a crane in the general vicinity of this building as I viewed it from about 10 blocks away. Pretty crappy reporting on my part.

JACKinBeantown
Apr 27, 2006, 4:00 AM
It is very boring, but there's one element of it that I like. It's skinny. For several decades blocky glass buildings went up and took up entire blocks. There seems to be a trend in NYC of skinny buildings again. There's so little space left that they have to go high on a small footprint. That's something I like about this building and many others.

peteynyc1
May 10, 2006, 1:35 PM
I spoke to a guy on the building site. This building will top out by the first week of June. The building will be completed and ready for occupants in 3 stages in Jan, Feb, and March from bottom to top.

I dont find the building to be boring, but rather smooth, refined, no gimmics. No boxy base with a Duane Reede or some other god aweful retail. No balconies that look like drawers of a dresser left out, filled with dead plants, ski equipments and old bikes. The multi colored glass cube at the entrance not so different from the glass cube about to open at the new Apple store should be interesting. This building really has 3 seperate squares or "boxes" all connected together. Not sure if it was called The Link for that reason or because it is considered the Link to Clinton or the first building or Link to building in the protected Clinton District. Sales here have been brisk according to the sales office and they are up over 80%. Its only 7 short blocks to Central Park which is nice.

With 3 other new glass buildings going up on 46th, 47th, and 48th, this area is changing quickly.

I agree! the colors are a bit more subduded than the Orion. It location and height ( ~472ft) makes it very visible in the far west skyline.
