The king of West 42nd...

Yup. From the first vantage point (in Tudor City) it's a bit obscured, but once you make your way to Grand Central it comes out from hiding behind the Grace Building and makes its presence felt in a big way. Dunno why I didn't get a picture of it from there

Well, it's a great addition to the skyline of NYC :) However, The Big Apple needs some 400meters edifices, that's why I'm looking forward to finishing the new WTC complex! I've been to NYC three times, but unfortunately, never had any chance to take a photo of the Twin Towers.

If I obtain my new visa, I will visit New York during my holidays! I wish I was there! This city is just an extremely addictive place:)

The Chrysler will always own E. 42nd, but once you step accross 5th Ave, BofA is kin...

Ironically, you can see'em both in that photo.

I remeber when I was in NYC, staying on the 42street corner, I was wondering "Where's that big BofA Tower". Then I looked up and, practically, I was standing at the bottom of the building ;d The structure is wonderful and humongous at once. Undoubtedly, one of my Big Apple's favourite!

Speaking of quiet bonuses, does anyone know if/when the MTA will actually link the Times Square subway station(s) with the Bryant Park station using the tunnel that was constructed with this (and Conde Nast)? You can see the tunnel boarded up, but I have no idea if any work is being done to finish it or not.

Even though it won't stay the second highest in the skyline forever, it is taller than the Chrysler and is definetly worthy of a major lighting scheme in which it will make just as big of an impact at night as the rest of the major landmarks (eg. Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, ect...)

Hopefully something will be put in place in addition to the stripes that will light up the east side!

Whether it's lighting up the top, strips along the building or both, I still think that we haven't seen the final product yet for what we'll see at night.

It's incredibly tall for a 53 story building, not even considering the height of the spire.

In the picture above, what part of it is considered the "roof"? Is the highest occupied floor the one that can be seen through on the left side? I can't tell if the above that contains occupiable space.

Anyway, this is my first post on SSP in a few months. I've been watching the threads for this and various other buildings with great interest, mostly looking at the photos (and the recent commentary). As a result of not having read all of these threads, I'm probably going to be asking some potentially annoying questions...

Anyway, I may be visiting NYC this summer, and look forward to seeing this tower if I do!

It's 61 floors total if you include the 7 mechanical floors. :)

It's the same for the IDS Tower in Minneapolis, even though people credit it as a 57 floor building, the 51st floor is the highest occupied floor and anything of the other floors aboce 51 are either empty of have some mechanics or mechanical function within them.

I spent a couple of hours at the Top of the Rock tonight contemplating the city's skyline - present and future. The form of this tower is lost somewhat in the darkness. It becomes just another tall tower. I think that will be changed because of the work that went into creating this tower.

Not sure, but it will obviously look better when completed, as we see with the completion of the crown.

As far as supertalls in Jersey goes, there is one potential proposal that may not see the light of day...

Here are some decent night shots. Use your mouse to zoom and pan.

Notice they had to blur people's faces to hide their identity.

Also, don't miss the mountain looming over the city in the second photo.

This is in the BofA thread because?

because you should take some night shots like those of NYC. I thought those Portland ones were impressive - and they have a tiny little city compared to Manhattan. The BofA tower would look amazing in a highly resolution night shot.

This 54-story office tower will be the second tallest building in New York upon completion later this year. However, it is the building’s green credentials and cutting-edge technologies, rather than its height, that catches the eye. For example, the building uses a natural gas-fired cogeneration plant to generate electricity, with the waste heat used to produce hot water for heating in the winter or cooling in the summer with an absorption chiller. It will collect and treat stormwater, water that condenses from steam and air-conditioning equipment and water from lavatory sinks, and use this to flush toilets and supply the cooling tower. The low-iron glass facade and floor to ceiling glass means the interior workspaces are flooded with natural light, while the tower filters 95% of particulates meaning air exhausted from the building is, in effect, cleaner than the air drawn in. All in all, according to the project architects, the tower will consume about half the energy from the grid and half the water of a typical building its size, and will achieve a LEED Platinum rating - the highest sustainable certification from the US Green Building Council.

Heh. I think we all have to realize that to most people the city is just that - a city. That rarely take the time to look up and appreciate the skyscrapers that make NYC and similar cities so great.

This one ranks right up there with the main four Midtown skyline icons such as ESB, Chrysler, MetLife, and Citicorp. There is no question that just from looking at these skyline shots, BofA jumps out everytime. I think it's safe to say there can be a fifth the the big four.

NYTT, TWT, 1 Astor, 1585 Broad, & Conde Nast would be your second round picks among others.

Most New Yorkers will only notice it if they're looking up, now that most of the construction is down. Even for a tower that is second talest in town, its surrounded by other skyscrapers.

BOA Tower really did take a long time to finish. Topped out Dec 17, 2007 and now 18 month later it's close to completion. I understand the crown problem with the glass. But glad it's almost done, GREAT TOWER.
