HAMILTON: May 6, 2011

After two years of planning, the King William Art Walk is taking shape along the street with a 16x8 ft historical mural of the Lister building. The muralist is Emily Hochheimer and art student at McMaster who was mentoring under professional muralist Russell Smith. The new piece will be installed in the parkette on King William Street between James and Hughson on May 10th at 10 am. Mauro Brunetti, HSBC Bank Canada, Chairman of the Steering Committee for the King William Art Walk reports that even more projects are being planned for the street and will be unveiled at this event.

The Art Walk is a joint project of Arts Hamilton, the Downtown Hamilton BIA, the International Village BIA and the City of Hamilton. The mission of King William ARTWALK is to foster, create and maintain through partnerships a designated urban art trail by connecting arts and cultural activity centres in the downtown core. The trail will create an animated pedestrian environment which will encourage increased exposure to a variety of artistic and cultural experiences. In addition, it will contribute to economic renewal through increased tourism and investment. The vision is to transform the street to prove that art can be anywhere in urban environments, not just in Concert Halls, Theatres, Galleries and Museums, but literally right on the street. Its first phase will extend from Ferguson Avenue through to James Street North.
