So let's get this party started. For a long time I have been brainstorming on how to redesign the World Trade Center site so it fitted my style and looked the way I wanted it to look.

Today I finally decided to hell with it and started making shapes. What do I look for in the new towers? Grand scale, symbolism of events and a functional space. For now I am focusing purely on the shapes of the towers. I will likely outline what I want to see added to the site as well, but I plan to take my time with all of this.

I would like to hear your ideas and later on I would like to see critiques. For now though I am experimenting with shapes and scales.

Now lets start with what is currently planned. Not bad, but it could be so much better. Please note that I have a 24" monitor with a high resolution, so these image don't even fill most of my screen. For those of you with tiny monitors, I have put each image in easy to manage spoiler tags.

Here is what I have come up with after a half hour fooling around with shapes. Obviously they are all huge and many don't even fit. For now I focus on shape, not relative scale. I personally think I made a breakthrough with the shape on the far right and plan to expand upon it.

I like the current proposed memorial to the previous towers. I find it beautiful in it's simplicity, though I may design my own visitors center.

Ideas I have considered for the site:

Making a mixed use office, residential, hotel and entertainment space.
Remaining space around the towers with low rise areas.
Planning the area as a transit hub (though I don't know the transit details of the area).

I liked the sleek U shaped design... It appears to defy gravity with its shape and looks very unique. The others are good but the U shaped one was the best in my IMO... good job! Can't wait to see what you hav in store for us with ur wtc proposal...

I agree. I like the curved styles too (the U shapes which was the last one). I can't wait what you can come up with.

I'd definetly concentrate on the U shape, that could be a remarkable structure. You need to come up with an overall form for the whole site next, possibly introducing a public plaza/park area around the buildings, but I'd also consider structurally how these buildings would work. You'd need a core that would run straight up, the floors would just be cantilevered from this giving the impression that the building 'defied gravity'. It could look wicked, especially where it meets the ground.

Agreed, just don't destroy the streets that are there. The fact that we're partially getting back the old grid is one of the best aspects of the WTC rebuilding.

Fantastic Krases. Of course the current project is feasible, difficult but possible, like they are making. Yours' shapes have the ones also feasible and sometimes more interesting, like the 'left' ones in the pic, but the 'right' ones are less feasible, even when far away more interesting, like for example the 'middle right round stairs' which i most appreciated.

Ok, I will likely move forward with something similar to the U shape because I honestly like it as well. It won't be as exaggerated though when I am done.

For now I simply don't know how to actually create certain parts of the model I want to make and am reading tutorials/getting more plugins.

In the meantime, here is some inspiration I have been looking at lately:

A tower I spent a good amount of time experimenting on, but alas I am abandoning it as it simply isn't what I want.

I mainly did a lot of experimenting today with different little sketchup tricks. I will likely start working on defining the site itself soon. The towers really are the main focus though.

I upgraded my little view of the current WTC plan. I may continue to add buildings around it to help with scaling, but I am still focusing on design and shape.

Feedback please! I really like this design! I may stick with it, but I am debating whether I want just one of these towers, or two like in the third image. Obviously it might not fit on the site if I build two unless I sacrifice the roads.

I was actually thinking of building one of these towers and then adding two more towers sort of flanking it.

Anyone picking up on the symbolism of its shape? That was actually purely by accident.

Thats a monster tower, I'm a little concerned over the structural issues, mainly to do with running a core up that, but hey I'm sure theres a solution. The symbolism of the shape? well I guess in a weird way the void could be seen as where the planes hit, a kind of memorial to that event in architectural space. Or am I getting to deep!

Something like that. I think it could be a form of memorial with the gap in space being the gap where the towers were. The very top of the tower though has two sections shaped like the original towers, sort of symbolizing their new rise.

Yeah running a core up it would be hard when I come to the empty section.

I am curious as to how I can calculate the square footage of this tower. I am going to guess twelve million square feet.

I have a general question that you guys can maybe help me with: How many square feet will the total real life world trade center be? I know that the Port Authority is required to build a certain number of square feet.

If they were gonna do twins again, the two with the diamond tops similar to 2 WTC are nice. The have that sheer rise of the original WTC, but the top gives and element fitting of Gotham.

I like the last design but feel its a bit too tall and I also
like the curved shaped ones too....but at the end of the day go
with what you want..

It was based heavily off the new 2 WTC and while I do like 2 wtc, I also really like my newest design.

I am already starting to experiment with scale. I will likely scale it down seeing as it is over 3800' tall. :sly:

Right now I am working with the low-rise urban area in the big mega block and I am trying to figure out how to break up the site.

I didn't forget about 2 wtc. Unfortunately I lost the file for both of these towers and I might just stick with the single tower design seeing as I want a dense, vibrant urban area around the base instead of more towers.

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr226/KrasesSkyscraper/World%20Trade%20Center/TowerScale1.png

Yeah it might be a bit on the large side. I do want it to be something truly grand and unmatched around the world...but this might be overkill....? It's no so much the height I have a problem with, its the width. It really dominates the side and prevents roads from crisscrossing without pushing into the memorial area.

Some more angles of the tower.

Interesting designs but way out of scale and unfeasible.

Came up with a new design today by re-approaching the curve design. Tell me Tell me what you all think about it.

Ok, this curve design has great potential, but I think you should expand on it. I don't like the podium/base you've inserted, it looks too contrived. I'd much rather see the curve come down as a fluid form, even curving the main body of the structure, basically try and make the whole thing more sexy. As I say it has potential, but you need to push it further.

I think the building with the hole would make a good looking supertall in NY's skyline. I think it could be built, if it had two cores running up both towers.

Just so you know this is being built in Abu Dhabi. Still has a core going straight up. You'll have to be careful with how you build your design to make sure it at least seems feasible physically.

This trident design is nice, but has 2 bad conotations:
1- Female signs in a twin to be f***ed resembling past, but something in future.
2- Trident means evil who is negative to most.

Thanks for the comments. I experimented with a new curve design and find that I keep coming back to the diamond shape at the top. I made the base a little nicer looking I think.
