Hot on the heels of the opening of the Shenkman Arts Centre, Orleans' Centrum Blvd. is about to host another development project. The YMCA at 265 Centrum Boulevard is proposing to construct a one-storey, 2,335 square metre addition to their existing athletic facility to provide a new indoor pool and gymnasium complex, after recieving a $6 million infrastructure investment from the federal and provincial governments, announced last week (http://www.ymcaywca.ca/whats-happening/134)

Does anyone here has an idea about a construction start for the Holiday Inn hotel at the Centrum Site?

Well, according to this article, land developer Richard Abboud, president of Forum Equity Partners, says he expects a 100-room Holiday Inn Express to be started by early fall [2009] and be completed by the middle of next year.

Thanks Rocketphish! It is nice to see that the centrum area will blossom again. There is a lot of potential for this area. I am hoping that it will become a little bit like rue du Campanile in Sainte-Foy (Quebec City suburb) where a similar street / area as grown over the years... See it: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&ie=UTF8&om=1&ll=46.761998,-71.333075&spn=0.002672,0.004812&t=k&z=18
It is surrounded by condos and it is mostly a street with local stores and restaurants (a little more upscale than East Side Mario's) I have to say but, there is some hope for our Centrum...

Well, if it's more condos and apartments that you want to see on Centrum Blvd, then fear not... there are projects in the works (though both are currently on hold). A future extension of Centrum Blvd. is slated to host the following new developments:

>> A new subdivision having seven medium and high density residential blocks accommodating approximately 250 apartment dwelling units, one public road, one park and three open space blocks, and one block for stormwater management purposes:

>> A 4-storey apartment building containing 41 affordable dwelling units and 26 parking spaces at 241 Centrum Boulevard:
