I didn't get to meet anybody on Saturday (possibly due to the downfalls of an anonymous forum) but I did get to do a nice walk around to get some updated photos. These are in the order they were taken. Click on the panos for the larger size.

Thanks for the tour. Calgary looks very new and clean looking toward Eau Claire. I look forward to its continued evolution.

I really like the proportions and street wall of Waterfront. 1-2 storey beltline podiums should take note.

If you went with a 6 or 7 storey podium in the beltline, you could really add a lot of density to an area.

Great photos, thanks for sharing.

What the hell is going on with Solaire though? It looks absolutely awful compared to the renderings.

I think the market tower will be a lot better. It's full floor to ceiling glass, as opposed to the affordable housing tower (currently topped out), which features mostly ugly spandrel.

The affordable housing tower does look like absolute shit though. What the hell are they thinking with covering 70% of the building face with spandrel? Honestly, I think stucco would have been better!

^What concerns me is the render made the affordable tower look much better, and there's a different render on site just to the side of 4th ave. I didn't get a good look at it, just noticed it was different than the one on the lacaille site.

You're right though, even the original render shows spandrel, it's just the colouring is very different from what's on there now. I can see the floor-to-ceiling glass looking fine on the market tower even with the current colour.

Thanks all for the comments.

I guess I'm not in the know when it comes to material costs, but is glass really that much more expensive than spandrel? It looks like a green metal prison for fricks sake. I dunno about stucco (let's not get crazy!) but even a simple concrete wall would've looked better.

If this is what is expected in the future, maybe the city needs to say thanks but no thanks for these types of charity projects. I've seen public housing in Holland that had better material choices than a luxury condo here. It's a shame that it seems like Calgary developers feel that they have to make something look cheap just because it is?

Here's hoping the market tower is a significant step up. Solaire might be worse than Oscar.

I do like Centennial though. Shame they didn't use the transparent glass a little more liberally, but it's handsome.

Nice pictures Smevo! The on of the Bow, taken from James Short park is a nice angle.
