just an update....the first tower in the project was released for sale a few months ago, and it is the shorter 55S tower....per several posters at urbantoronto, it is now about 70% sold.....not sure when construction would begin for the first tower, but the developers are Cadillac Fairview and Lanterra Developments, 2 well established players in the Toronto market...

hopefully we will see this one proceed...the market for new condos in Toronto, while way down from last year, seems to be showing some signs of life...

btw, the proposed heights are as follows...

office - 31 storeys - 156.9 m (514.7 ft)

Res 1 - 55 storeys - 185.8 m (609.58 ft)

Res 2 - 65 storeys - 216.8 m (711.28609 ft)

I don't understand why they have 2 small-ish towers when you could have 1 large one

Nouvellecosse
May 11, 2010, 4:25 AM
^ Because: a) two smaller towers are less expensive to build than one larger one, and b) they aren't actually smallish, they are largish, all over 500 ft and one over 200m which is very high for a residential building. The tallest would be the tallest building in any Canadian city outside Toronto (except Calgary after the Bow is finished) and would be in the top 5-10 tallest if built in any but the largest cities in NA.

bob1954
May 11, 2010, 4:51 AM
610' and 711' that isn't too bad! For condo towers, Calgary and a couple others wish they could get something even close to that!!

A lot of people seem to dump on the Gardiner expwy wanting to see it torn down, let me tell you when all these towers are constructed this will be one of the most spectacular drives (day or night) in North America

exactly. and considering the majority of these buildings along the gardner are new, glass skyscraper condos, it'll be amazing. too bad these weren't ocean front condos though. THAT would be amazing. the gardiner is still amazing for car commercials though :D

btw: isn't this U/C already? (construction crane)

caltrane74
Jan 9, 2011, 3:42 PM
Yeah, now that the crane has been installed they should be pouring concrete. But who knows, Tony had to move L Tower from proposed to the highrise construction thread. L Tower was almost at ground level when it was finally updated to the right sub-forum.

When it does move over the floors need to be updated to 57 floors and 67 floors.

Look on the bright side, it's density filler. And there are still enough parking lots to be filled along the Gardiner Expressway. So all hope is not lost.

I remember years ago when I first realized that skyscrapers were an interest of mine. Before I joined this forum. I had seen an overhead view of Downtown TO and couldn't believe the surface parking. Someone must have read my thoughts. Since then nothing but tower after tower has begun to change that.
