I realize it's a bit late for a thread but I only heard about JUNO FEST yesterday.

Live music hits the streets of Vancouver!

JunoFest wristbands go on sale starting Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. (PST), through Ticketmaster and participating JunoFest venues. $30.00

JunoFest takes place on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28, each night from 9:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. Wristbands offer fans priority entry at all JunoFest venues (subject to capacity). Must be 19 years of age or older to attend.

Produced in association with Vancouver-based Donnelly & Associates Event Marketing Inc., JunoFest is a two-night music extravaganza that showcases the talents of over 100 local, regional and national artists representing the diverse spectrum of Canadian music.

Nearly half of the participating line-up has been chosen locally to highlight Vancouver’s rich and diverse music scene, in addition to performances from 2009 JUNO Award nominees and some of Canada’s national touring acts.

In addition to the JunoFest line-up are two independently produced musical showcases happening locally (only a limited number of JunoFest wristbands will be permitted access):

The Classical Music Showcase co-sponsored by the Canadian Music Centre, Music in the Morning and CBC Radio 2, headlines five-time JUNO Award nominees The Gryphon Trio, performing at Tom Lee Music Hall (929 Granville St) on Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 adult/ $15 senior/$12 student, available by calling Music in the Morning (604) 873-4612, or in person at the Canadian Music Centre (837 Davie St).

Vancouver’s Coastal Church presents the Gospel Music Showcase featuring acoustic performances by Greg Sczebel, Laurell and 2009 JUNO Award nominees Starfield, taking place on Friday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Coastal Church (1160 W. Georgia St). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling (604) 684-8475.

Did they have to pay people to stand by the red carpet and cheer like in Calgary, when nobody was interested in doing it for free?

When are they even on TV >.>?

I wonder when those photos were taken. I was in the area last night.

Sometimes you don't even have to pay to enjoy yourself. Just being on Granville and taking in the atmosphere was a new and cool enough experience.

^the flickr page said they were taken on Friday. I was there as well but I was actually inside the main tent. I agree that you didnt have to really pay anything to enjoy the festive atmosphere on the streets. It would have been much better though if the tents were gone entirely and it was open to the public. Also the beer gardenclosed at 11pm which was ridiculously lame.

Wish I had time to go...maybe I'll check it out tomorrow and take some pics.
11pm beer garden closure? That certainly is pathetic.

Tuned in at around 6.30pm, and right as the tv turned on they were shamelessly promoting Vancouver 2010. :p

looks like it was a huge success:

Vancouver's Junos pulled four million viewers

March 30, 2009

VANCOUVER — More than four million viewers watched as least part of the broadcast of the Juno Awards Sunday from Vancouver, CTV said Monday in a press release.

The two-hour broadcast pulled in more viewers from 9 to 11 p.m. than any other broadcaster, the network said, citing preliminary overnight data from BBM Nielsen Media Research.

Highlights from the broadcast are now available on demand on The CTV Broadband Network at junos.CTV.ca.

As well, MuchMoreMusic presents an encore broadcast of awards show Thursday, April 2 at 5 p.m.

It's good to see it successful, but the notion of rewarding every year the same artists like Nickelback and Bare Naked Ladies shows Canada's thin talent pool.
