Doesn't look like the coloured window sills made it into the final as built version of the hotel tower:

I see, in the original models, that there would've been three towers. now there's only plans for 2 of them, and they're both residential? so, there won't be a hotel? or will both towers be the hotel?

^ Threre are still three buildings if you take a closer look at the 4th rendering quoted below:
(It' on your right hand corner)

http://www.modelshop.bc.ca/porty2/file/XI000/XI041/XI041-4.jpg

I believe that no towers are cancelled and the angles of the shots just didn't show the third one. Three towers are all under construction currently at the site.

Thx for those updates on the Wall Centre, Allen. Nice shots, man ^^ That plot of land across the Rona (now shut down) - wasn't there a project that was going on there? Also, anyone know if there are any plans for the Rona building? are they going to demolish that thing? rent it out?

That's a pretty nice looking Westin!

I must be out of the loop, when was it announced that it would be a Westin? From the beginning?

I don't recall the initial marketing mentioning that :P Though I am not surprised, Wall Financial and Starwood seem to be aligned closely!

Yea, they didn't have any big ads or anything. I believe the plan/design was changed a couple of times and they don't even have a rendering on their official site.

Thanks for the picture update Raggedy!!

I'm really quite curious to see whether the city of Richmond has any plans to revitilaze, or densify the area across the Canadian Tire, Aberdeen area. There are a lot of smaller stores, but does the city have plans to demolish some of those stores, and rebuild that area?

City council's long-term plan is to eliminate all buildings between the old rail line and River Road and turn it all into a waterfront park. The vision is to turn Richmond's downtown into a waterfront downtown. River Road would be re-aligned where the rail line is today (as was done at the Oval), and several roads would be pushed through to connect to it (this was already done at Leslie). The properties between the rail line and No. 3 Road, which you are referring to, will all be redeveloped with frontage on both sides. I'm sure this redevelopment is a big portion of Richmond's growth plan to densify the city centre from 40,000 to 120,000 population by 2041.

Thanks for the information :)

I'm looking forward to seeing it being redeveloped.

The waterfront is the part that excites me. I bet most people have never even considered how close the river is to No. 3 Road. Council wants to make the whole downtown face the water and have lots of public space along the shore. It's a great vision compared to the lame suburban sprawl of last century, even if it will take decades to realize.
