I guess they are demolishing a portion the building that is attached to the O'Conner side? It's not that bad looking of a building. I live about a block away and totally love the neighborhood. It's unfortunate, for me, that its a retirement residence. I'll take some pictures soon.

[Edit: maybe if i hadn't had been so lazy and read the report first I would have realized that this is the case. All the more reason for me to snap some pics before the thing is torn down]

It will populate the block, which right now is pretty empty. It only has Colonnade Pizza to liven it up at the corner, otherwise it's much parking and empty offices.

That parking lot right across from it will probably be the next thing to go and the next thing to receive Diane Holmes' unwarranted revile at being "too tall".

And to be appealed to the OMB by David Gladstone....

You mean all of these OMB appeals are based on a misunderstanding from one character overhearing something another character said?

Diane Holmes is more of a heavy. I'd say she's Mrs. Roper...

I need to stop thinking about this now.

330 Gilmour
The Ontario Municipal Board has effectively taken over from city staff in getting
agreement between the owner/developer Ashcroft and residents on what will replace the
OBE Headquarters building. The agreement: building an eight-story seniors' residence
retaining the west end of the OBE Headquarters building with roof-top structures. There
will be some setback from Lewis Street, respecting the heritage residences on the south
side of the street.

This popped up the other day. Looks like the French Catholic board wants to build a school here as part of the condo development.

Seems a little tall and massive for the area.

^ Not really. There's plenty of buildings in that area that are of similar height. 335 MacLaren, 263 MacLaren, and 325 Waverly are all in the 10-15 stories range and they're within a few minutes walk of this site.

There's also tons more (probably like a dozen) 5-10 story buildings within a couple blocks; the immediately adjacent 267 O'Connor is 6 stories and right across from that is 320 MacLaren which is 7 stories.

It won't stand out that much.

Any update on this, considering it's supposed to become the French Catholic school by fall 2018?

Another broken promise from Ashcroft. Project is dead. Article in French only (because none of the English media covered this as far as I know).

Ashcroft had originally called for two phases; phase 1, the school, phase 2, the tower. I feel they probably added the school (and used the French Catholic School Board) to get approval from City Hall. The school project would probably had been dropped even if they received approval for the tower (just like the Re' hotel portion and the promise to maintain the entire convent intact on Richmond).

What's the connection to the proposed residential component? School buildings are renovated all the time.

Just noticed some work going on at this building right now. I had also noticed workers in and around Somerset House before the current application was submitted so could it be that something happens here too?

Probably illegal demolition. You should send this to the City and ask if they applied for a demo permit.
