seeing as how we all know what a movie shoot looks like with its unassuming barrage of white trucks and trailers, and street closures in popular areas like Gastown. i'm starting a thread that i noticed isn't here for shoot locations around town for upcoming movies.

any papparazzi can figure that out, and i'm certain there's a few closet pap's on this forum, or just general would be celeb stalkers.

i'd like it if we could post what is shooting where, and who is in it, but thats not always possible. so, just include the locations for the current shoots, and we'll speculate from there.

currently, and for the past week, North Vancouver from about Lonsdale and Third Street has been San Francisco. as well the open air parking lot at Lonsdale Quay has been closed as its now a used car lot. not sure if anyone here has noticed that or not. anyone know who's in the movie, and what the title is? i've seen signs up Lonsdale (specifically at 8 Street) for Night At The Museum 2, but i'm not sure that takes place in San Francisco.

I asked one of the "grips" (is that what they're called?) yesterday about what they were shooting on Lonsdale, and he said Cats and Dogs 2. Can't say I heard of Cats and Dogs 1. But it was a huge production, with various stores on Lonsdale converted to San Francisco. Very cool.

Also, there's a huge set being built close to the Fast Ferries dock on Lower Levels... I wonder if that's part of the production?

I know there were production vehicles last week at the VAG a common shooting location

the set for WATCHMEN is still standing on marine way in burnaby - the fencing is actually been cleared and you can get a much better view of the street set - amazing looking

There was some sort of San Francisco cop movie/show being filmed by the new convention centre today. I took a few pics:

The funny thing is those concrete blocks were made of styrofoam (or at least the triangular ones to the far left - I saw a single guy sling one over his shoulder)...

I work at the Shaw Tower, and there have been plenty of movie crews nearby in the last few days. There is a lot going on at the small club building adjacent to the Marine Building, and tonight, then new convention centre building was being shot. They had all kinds of lit signs inside to make it look like a German airport, and all the cars on Canada Place (the street) outside were all German. Our security guard told me it was A-Team being filmed.

I can remember years ago when I first visited Vancouver, long before I knew that i would ever live here (seem to recall saying, wow what a place, I could definitely live here!) anyway i saw all these swat vans, helicopters, armored vehicles and armies of police officers everywhere, guns waving all over the place - i watched for ever before I eventually learned it was an episode of The X files with Sulky and Moaner.

Thanks for the pics.
That scene is hilarious...I don't know what could be more wrong:
1. A North American bus (Orion V)
2. The Police cars have Post Office plates (Bundespost = BP)
3. North American spec cars.
4. Road markings and traffic signs are different...like the crosswalk.

The Dodge Sprinter (AKA Mercedes Sprinter) is the closest thing to being believable.

Seriously, who do they hire for this stuff?

The A-Team!

That's what the film was. I happened to be there when they shot the action scene. It was pretty cool to see the whole thing go down in person.

A guy with a sub machine gun races through the lobby of the Convention Centre, which was doubling as Frankfurt International, and shoots out the glass doors ahead of him. While he is doing this a silver Mercedes peels out of the Centre's parking lot and fishtales around a BMW which careens into an oncoming Volvo. Our guy with the machine gun fires off his clip at the departing Merc as he jumps over the hood of the crashed Volvo and then switches to pistol and lets off the full clip. At that moment the polizei sedans skid stop and the guys jump out and start yelling for our guy to drop the gun. Then the police vans roll up and disgorge more police. The guy puts his hands up as the movie's female lead Jessica Beal maybe? walks up with a pistol and they talk.

The whole thing will last ten seconds on film and it took them the whole day to set up. CoV Engineering took down all of the street lights and the film co put up signs in german. All of the visible signs, including the hoarding ads for the Fairmont Pacific Rim were replaced with signs in german.

I saw the movie at VIFF, a few weeks back.
I have to admit the movie is hard to follow, that being said fans of Terry Gilliam will be enthralled, also must make note of Heath Ledger's performance is excellent.
Terry Gilliam did an amazing piece of work with the inclusion of the other actors taking just bits here and there, the role of Tony was not diminished by the participation of the other actors, watch for Verne Troyer awesome role and Tom Waits as Nick.
This is a movie that will attract a lot of attention for Gilliam followers and Honor Heath ledger's magical work.
I have some reservation concerning certain actors(performance), that be said it become an another story I will not divulge, each can make up his or her mind once you see the movie.
Note: this is a movie you will need to see more than once to understand its concept, well worth the viewing.

Theres a new Canadian television show called Shattered that will be airing on Showcase Canada that will be filming in Vancouver. They are filming scenes today at Main & Terminal right infront of the Pacific C. Building off of the Main skytrain. They were on the grass and there was a scene where there was a crime scene with police and yellow tape everywhere and a man finds out his wife was killed and police are holding him back to get to his wife while he was trying to fight them off.

They are filming a "A-Team" movie currently in Vancouver, after filming up in Kamloops and Ashcroft (the desert in BC) for the summer and fall.

Apparently some of the fake money used in the movie was stolen and is now showing up in various location!

At least this is what I heard through the grapevine.

It is also fun to note that all of the desert scenes in "2012" were also filmed in Kamloops and Ashcoft, that arid area is startingto get more movie attention as a sub for Californaia, Nevada and Arizona when movies are being filmed here.

Did anyone watch the last episode of "V"? They had a great scene in front of the Building at the eastern corner of W Georgia and Thurlow. I want to say it's 1075 W Georgia. It is the very geometrical building with the square windows recessed into deep concrete window wells all the way up. I've always found it an attractive, unique building facade. I've seen plenty of other buildings like that in other cities (it must have been a popular style at some point. But the one here is the only one that really stands out impressively.

Anyhow, apparently the building serves as the headquarters for the FBI offices where the lead female actress (Elizabeth Mitchell) works. They have a scene of her walking out and talking to one of the other characters in front of it, and you can see those square shapes of the building windows as the backdrop.

I think you're referring to this building:

Twilight Eclipse reshoots: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart return to Vancouver

Robert Pattinson fans rejoice, the brooding bloodsucker has returned to Van City to shoot more scenes for the upcoming feature film Twilight: Eclipse, hot on the tail of news that a director has been chosen for the fourth film of the series - Breaking Dawn.

Veteran director Bill Condon will take the helm on the Stephenie Meyer written tour de freakout, having previously delighted critics and movie buffs with films such as Kinsey, Dreamgirls, Gods and Monsters and Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh.

Gus Van Sant and Sofia Coppola were each at one time discussed as possible directors of the film.

But for now, all the sidewalk panic and tweenage heart palpitations in town concern Twilight: Eclipse, the third installment in the Emo-heavy vampire/werewolf romance between Bella, a sullen Washington state teenager, and Edward, a vampire who sparkles in the sunlight.

Star Pattinson was spotted flying out of Heathrow airport early Wednesday in a brown leather jacket, jens and white t-shirt, carrying a tatty guitar case.

The combined female 14-year-old population of the Pacific Northwest will no doubt be back on the trail for all things Twilighty now that R-Pattz is back on Canadian soil, with local bars, hotels and even Twilight location tour operators looking to get ankle-deep in the Twi-Hard onslaught.

Movie trucks rumble back to B.C.

Olympics wrap and new tax incentives lure moviemakers to province

By Glen Schaefer, The Province

The big movie trucks are slowly starting to rumble back into B.C. locations again, after the Olympics and an unfavourable tax-credit situation had the U.S. studio projects heading elsewhere earlier in the year.

B.C. tweaked tax credits in February to match incentives in Ontario and elsewhere, but by then the moviemakers had already made their plans for the first half of 2010.

"The features never jumped in, in part because of the Olympics," says Crawford Hawkins, B.C. executive director of the Directors Guild of Canada. "But by the end of the year, we'll be on an upward tick."

First to arrive among the star vehicles was The Big Year, a comedy that started filming in May starring Jack Black, Owen Wilson and Steve Martin as rival bird-watchers for The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel. They wrap in July.

At the beginning of July, the sci-fi feature Caesar: Rise of the Apes starts filming, a sort-of prequel to the Planet of the Apes remake of a couple of years ago. Under British director Rupert Wyatt ( The Escapist), the new movie is an origin story set in present-day San Francisco, in which experiments aimed at curing Alzheimer's disease produce a strain of highly intelligent apes.

No word on casting yet, although unlike past Planet of the Apes movies, this one will use digital effects to create the talking apes, instead of people in ape suits.

Late July will bring the highly anticipated monster romance The Girl With the Red Riding Hood, starring current it-actress Amanda Seyfried as a medieval woman who becomes involved with a werewolf.

Red Riding Hood will be directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight movie in Oregon. Others in the cast include rising U.S. star Shiloh Fernandez and Brit actor Max Irons (son of Jeremy). Being talked about for other roles are Julie Christie and Gary Oldman. Set building has already started.

By July's end, Reese Witherspoon will be in Vancouver to star in the New York-set comedy This Means War, about two lifelong friends who have a falling out over a woman. Their feud escalates and results in the destruction of major New York City landmarks. Chris Pine and Vancouver's own Seth Rogen are being talked about as the two rivals. The one-named director McG ( Charlie's Angels, Terminator Salvation) is behind this project.

The producers and cast of the kids movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid, filmed here last year, will be back with the sequel Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. Returning will be Zachary Gordon as the fictional preteen diarist Greg Heffley, and Canadian Devon Bostick as his mean older brother Rodrick.

Other filming possibilities include X-Men: First Class, a prequel to the durable Vancouver-filmed superhero franchise. Producer Lauren Schuler Donner and her partners are aiming for a late summer-early fall start. No word on specific locations, but Donner and the X-Men have had good luck in Vancouver before. Britain's Matthew Vaughn ( Kick Ass) is said to be close to a deal to direct this.

Hawkins says Vancouver film types are also awaiting word on a possible third instalment of Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum comedies, and a possible sequel to director Chris Columbus's teen fantasy Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

On the TV side, the new USA network series Facing Kate starts filming in mid-June, with Sarah Shahi as a frustrated lawyer who decides to become a mediator. The USA network also airs the long-running Vancouver-shot series Psych, currently shooting its fifth season.

The CW network has ordered the new series Hellcats, produced by Smallville star Tom Welling and set amid competitive college cheerleaders. Set to start filming in July, it stars Aly Michalka ( Bandslam) as a university outsider forced to try out for the school's cheerleading team after she loses her scholarship.

The CW has also ordered one more season each of the long-running shows Smallville and Supernatural. The family drama Life Unexpected, another CW series which filmed its first season here, has been picked up for a second season.

Huh, I didn't know that BC changed their tax credits to match Ontario. Does that mean that our tax credits apply to more than just labour costs? Interesting, since they said earlier they did not want to go down that road.

New DiCaprio movie filming in Vancouver has ties to Twilight, Harry Potter

Will Leonardo DiCaprio be jetting to the city?

By Katya Holloway, Vancouver Sun July 27, 2010

VANCOUVER -- Twi-hards, Harry Potter and Leonardo DiCaprio fans get ready to scream: filming of Red Riding Hood has begun in Vancouver.

Cameras are rolling this week on the new DiCaprio-produced film, which is being described as a Gothic-inspired retelling of the classic fairytale in the same horror-romance vein as Twilight.

It's being directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who helmed the first Twilight movie.

The film is also chock-full of familiar faces from the blockbuster vampire movie and the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter's Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) and Julie Christie (Madame Rosmerta) join the cast, as well as Twilight star Billy Burke (Charlie Swan).

Chloe actress Amanda Seyfried stars in the big-budget flick alongside teen heartthrobs Shiloh Fernandez and Max Irons. Seyfried is the heroine threatened by the hairy beast, while Fernandez and Irons are the sweet young things vying for her attention.

The plot? Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl (Seyfried) falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family's displeasure.

The movie is said to be the brainchild of DiCaprio himself, whose company, Appian Way Productions, is teaming up with Warner Brothers to produce the film.

ah V

I know in Fringe they use the library as the fringe headquarters in the parallel universe which they seem to jump between this season

Yume-sama
Oct 15, 2010, 10:57 PM
lol almost all of the scenes in Fringe where they are walking down a random road in a random town have the pillars of the library behind them. That or the VAG~

They do a good job of concealing their location, most time, by a conveniently placed tree.

In some episodes I have noticed Vancouver Taxi's and of course our transit buses behind them lol

Oh, and, let's not forget the North Shore mountains making an appearance when they are supposed to be in a parking garage in New York / Boston.

If so how?

join an agency - there are lots in town - usually they will charge you for a head shot - but the ones i know people have used will take that cost - usually $35 out of the first job you get and than they take off a % of whatever you make on anything else - my friend did it full time for years - he could get work that lasted for months - my other friend started a couple years ago and has done a lot of stuff too

try thompson talent agency and local colour agency

SpongeG
Oct 18, 2010, 11:11 AM
yup - anyone - but parents need to be involved if under 18

all those people you see on TV shows like fringe are extras walking around - most of them get paid about $10 an hour - you get bonuses or extra pay for certain things - like my friend was one of two people used on a show so they got payd a bit more than normal as they were doing a little more in the scene - i forget what show it was but it was some sci0fi show my friend said - he and this other guy were working some computer board in a space environment or something

another friend got $100 extra for shaving his head on stargate - the old original show

Rehearsals begin for Tom Cruise blockbuster in Vancouver (updated)

Preproduction said to be underway for Mission: Impossible 4 at a Burnaby facility

Rehearsals are underway in Metro Vancouver for the Tom Cruise blockbuster, Mission: Impossible 4.

Cast and producers have been arriving, and rumour has it preproduction has begun at Burnaby's Canada Motion Picture Park, where scenes for Twilight, Fantastic Four and X-Men were previously filmed.

Tom Cruise arrived quietly in Hollywood North this week and has been lying low at his hotel in Metro Vancouver.

Local photographers PUNKD Images have snapped photos of MI4 co-stars Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Mikael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) arriving at YVR. However, Cruise appears to have dodged the paparazzi lenses to date.

Also keep an eye out on the streets for Josh Holloway, best known for playing the rugged James "Sawyer" Ford on Lost.

Filming of the action sequel began in Prague and Dubai; they'll be shooting locally until March.

Up to six injured in explosion on movie set near Vancouver

MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. - Up to six people have been injured in an explosion on a movie set east of Vancouver.

Chief Dane Spence of Maple Ridge Fire Department says the explosion happened in Golden Ears Provincial Park.

Spence says five or six people suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening burns.

Spence didn't know how serious the injuries were, but says several people have been transported to hospital.

^An article I read earlier today said they would be trying to pass the location off for India. They'll apparently have palm trees there and who knows what else. It doesn't seem like a particularly Indian-looking area to me.

Yume-sama
Jan 8, 2011, 5:37 AM
lol it's supposed to be Bangalore. And in lieu of actually bringing in palm trees they paid someone to glue leaves to bare trees.

Ahhhh so that's what they were doing at the convention centre. I was walking by the other day and was wondering if it was some indian convention until I saw a retail unit at the fairmont with mannequins dressed in indian garments at the window and a note in front of the store that said "...we are proud to support the local film industry", then I thought to myself, "Bollywood isn't local." lol.

Anyways I'll be definitely watching MI4; if not for the merit of the movie, I'll be looking out for scenes of Vancouver.

IMDB really revamped their filming location page, a search for Vancouver is now much more coheriant and can even be sorted by "most popular titles" although I dont know how they determine that one...

I was surprised by a few, most notably, Titanic.

Twilight Breaking Dawn cast heads to Vancouver - First photos Jacob Blacks house

'Hollywood Life' reported that they know an exact day and where the filming will take place. This seems unlikely since the pandamonium that that kind of insider knowledge would bring would force the producers to change plans but here's the scoop. Sources say that filming will take place in the "city of Vancouver on one day March 14, they’ll be at a theatre for part of the day and then they’ll be filming on Beatty Street." According to google map that's right near the stadium so if you want to have a "Twilight" moment now you know where to go.
