Located in the heart of the city, just north of downtown Phoenix, this is the Murphy Bridle Path. Stretching from just north of Dunlap Ave to Bethany Home Rd on Central Ave, this tree lined streetscape spans 4 miles and was created in 1895 and has remained unpaved for over 100 years.

If you've never checked it out, it makes for a great walk or jog, about 4 miles in each direction.

While walking, we ran across three mulberry trees, and to the surprise of cars passing by, I'm sure, we started to pick some and eat there right there on the street! :D Mulberry trees are very popular in Romania and I used to eat these as a kid and have missed them since.

that is one of my favorite parts of phoenix, bound by 7th avenue and 7th street and roughly camelback and dunlap.

there are some amazing homes in there! Pretty expensive part of town though.

BTW, #3 and #7 are of McCaine's old house which I believe an article said was in her family for quite a while.

Yea, almost 3 years.

...and yea, I love mulberries, why don't people here eat them? Them, and sour cherries...have never seen either for sale in a store.

^ Thanks. As a gay man, I thought she was pretty attractive.

I used to eat mulberries all the time growing up in Kansas City. I've not had any in Phoenix - I'd be afraid to eat anything growing on a plant in the desert, not knowing if it was poisonous or not. We seem to have a lot of stuff that can make your pets sick, for example.

I love this area of central Phoenix but it is really expensive.

I remember mulberrys being red to dark purple (the neighbor's mulberry tree across the street always has dark fruit). Aren't those a little under ripe?

There are actually two varieties, white mulberries and dark mulberries...these were of the white variety. There were a couple dark ones we ran across as well.

By the way, would your neighbor mind if I have an harvested some of the fruit? :D I'm actually thinking I'm going to take a bed sheet, go out to Central Ave, place the sheet on the floor...and shake the tree to get some more fruit...you think any of the people driving by are going to think I'm nuts? :p

They would probably be glad if you took the whole tree. It is HUGE, they have to have an arborist out every season to trim it back, and the birds eat the berries, and then crap on their subaru.

Haha...I've heard about that...the berries actually stain, so if birds eat then, then crap...their crap now stains. I guess that is why they aren't very popular anymore, that and they make a pretty big mess when the fruits start to fall to the ground. They are great for shade and grow VERY fast.

Not only are mulberry trees messy, they are also a major source of pollen. If you're sneezing right now, thank a mulberry tree!

I understand just the male mulberry trees produce the pollen and are actually illegal to plant in the City of Phoenix due to it. The female trees are the ones that make the fruit, but don't have the high allergy pollen.

Thanks HX- I am embarrassed to say I have lived here my whole life and never known this path had a name. Ducks sure make me feel good! ;)

Don't expect to see many Clinton or Obama signs in this neighborhood this election season (with the exception of a few homosexuals spotted throughout the N.Central corridor).

This is an area I would love to live (and even tried to get in four years ago at the beginning of the market boom).

Great pics, HX!
