that is utterly ridiculous.

this is clearly the wild fantastical vision of some architect and not a real proposal with a real development team backing it. as such, i moving this thread to the buildings and architecture thread because this is not a bona fide proposal for a real or serious project.

and i'd have to agree with the other two posters, whatever the hell that thing is supposed to be, it's god-awful ugly.

It looks like one of those things that activate or have something rise out of it when certain astronomical phenomena are at play.

Uhh... is that a human spine?

Well this is certainly a retractible proposal. Something like this would get so much resistance from the community, it would probably ruin the architect for life. It almost looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.

not to worry,
Oakland is notoriously successful at making sure tall proposals never see the light of day.

Looks like some hack ripped off Paolo Soleri (http://www.arcosanti.org/theory/arcology/main.html). In a really, really bad way.

Anyways, I'm sure the average 3-year old could come up with a better design than this.

Anyways, this would be a good reason not to attend the U of O.

Did somebody use Photoshop to superimpose a Dubai proposal into the Oakland skyline?

As a sci-fi building, it looks cool. However, it also looks completely out of place in Oakland. Or almost anywhere else on earth.

I am sorry people, but I liked. Seems a E.T. Spine but ok, of course in Dubai. The crystal star at botom seems an angel with a huge spine one-eye at top, but I think the earth deserves more structures like this... :P but please do not hit me.

Hey everyone.

I've been coming on this site for about 3 or 4 years now. I'm not an architect or developer or anything, just a regular guy who has always had an interest and appreciation for good buildings. I generally just come here to see what's new in the world and what may or may not get built. I've never really felt the need to comment on anything......... until I saw this......

Good God Damn that's an ugly building!!!! It looks like a mosquito had sex with an old hippies spine. Then the spine took acid and sat in a cave for a few thousand years and stalagmites grew from the base. After that a gypsy placed her magic crystal ball and the bottom and....presto!!!!.. out pops this hideous monstrosity.

I know there is no way in hell this would ever get built but DAMN!

That achitect must have gotten his hands on some really bad weed

http://www.inhabitat.com/wp-content/uploads/mile-high-ultima-tower.jpg
And I thought I saw something in the image of a tower going up in Oakland called "Eye In The Sky", so I googled it and came up with this SSP thread. W T F-ing F??? :haha:

I saw this also near Jeddah Red Sea, but maybe already another Arabic Phantasy, not even a Vision, seems to me a Russian Rocket, who knows.... :haha: :haha: :haha:

This is an example of 'a person who as a lot of time on their hands' at its best. It's a joke, and so is the person who came up with this. I mean, who in their right mind would look at this and take it seriously.

I could photoshop some monstrosity into a skyline picture and make a thread out of that.

Which is probably pretty close to what happened here.

I mean, who in their right mind would look at this and take it seriously.

Who in their right mind would come up with something like that in the first place is a better question.

Wow, whoever designed this must have just barely passed architecture school. Or they were tripping their balls off. Im pretty sure this thing would totally destroy the bay area. Everyone would leave because they wouldnt be able to stand to look at that thing everyday. People would have nightmares and then the murder rate would skyrocket!

This shit reminds me of those launch freefall rides in Theme Parks.
With a stupid timer or speaker at the top, and some decoration or station at the bottom, and curved tracks.
It's like it falls down once there is a 3.0+ earthquake and becomes a bridge to San Francisco!
WOOOHOOO build it and see if that happens!

I know I'll take heat for it, but this tower and the NOAH are starting to grow on me... I'm not too big on the artwork but the thing I like about the design is that its taller than any other building next to it and its unique... It's nice to see something a little different for a change... It's time to stop making every building look alike and start thinking like the Dubai's of the world... I'm really surprised the arch got built ( the NIMBYS would destroy it today).

This is without a doubt the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I've known people with down syndrome who could design a better building than this. We need a wall of shame after this for sure.

I feel the need to bathe now.

Okay, I know this an old thread, but I had to coment on this,

1st of all, if it fell, it would land on san francisco, and second, oakland would be a better place to put it, better they ruin oakland's skyline than somewhere with a half decent one

Um..a schizophrenic skyscraper? But seriously this thing looks ridiculous. It definitely does not fit in with Oakland, or California, or even the USA itself. This building is for a wild utopia, not a USA! (Maybe other nations would like it though?)
