This summer I spent a short time in Corner Brook, Newfoundland's fourth largest municipality, and the largest centre outside the St.John's metro area. (Population - City 20,083, Metro - 26,623)

Topo map of Corner Brook:

Corner Brook is surrounded by the natural beauty of Western Newfoundland, with the main industry, the paper mill in the center of town with the downtown area surrounding it. The entire city is built on hillsides, with the mill occupying what seems to be the only bit of flat land. Corner brook is new by east coast standards, dating mainly from the 1920's when the mill was built.

These are some of my photos of Corner Brook (Aug 2007):

Just east of the city is the Marble Mountain Ski Resort; top elevation, 546m (1,791ft):

Also the Humber Valley Resort which draws many of it's vacationers from Europe:

The city's hospital is a local landmark, situated prominently on a hill:

Fantastic shots! I've always wondered what Corner Brook looked like. Newfoundland has the most intriguing looking communities.

Great shots from a favorite city of mine (and a favorite ski hill: Marble Mountain just a couple of KMs east on the Trans Canada) One of the best spots to view the city is from the Dining Room at the Mamateek Hotel. It’s built out on the front of the building, high on a hill with the city spread out below. Nice view at night. (An equally good view if from the parking lot at McDonald’s right next door!) Thanks again for posting.

Excellent shots. The extent of my stay in Corner Brook was an overnight at the Holiday Inn on the way to St. John's (where we only stayed an hour or two before doubling back to Argentia) about 11 years ago. I've always wanted to explore the town...again, I've got some convincing to do. Thanks for the phototour Architype!

Thank's for bumping this thread newflyer, I hadn't seen these pictures before. Corner Brook has some breathtaking vistas. I've been to central Newfoundland (Grand Falls/Gander) and to the Avalon, but never to the west coast. I will definitely have to make it there some day!!
