As our temperatures drop and our leaves begin to turn red and gold, I wish a farewell to summer. Below I share some photos I took of just a few of the local summer festivals/gatherings and the soon to be gone foliage in Denver, Boulder and in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Hope you enjoy!

Japanese Blossom Festival at Sakura Square and parts of LODO (Lower Downtown).

What is to come with winter? Here are some photos in my neighborhood of the Christmas snow storm last year in Denver. Had to walk to everything for a few days as it was in the 2 – 3 foot snow fall range in the city. Nature’s way of telling us to stop and slow down. Loved It!

Thank you all for the comments!

Moby - The artists just began moving into the Santa Fe area within the last five years and now there are around 30 galleries there. You can spend as much as you want or as little there. Highly recommend the first Friday night of each month to check it out. By the way, we need to do the Dim Sum meal still. Welcome to Denver!

I hear you Flar - Not a fan of driving in snow but you have to enjoy looking at it when it first falls.

BG918 - be sure to check out 14th street downtown. Loads of construction action happening with the big three, well one is on hold, but two are begining to dig dirt! Plus the new Denver Museum of Contemporary Art should be open on lower 14th street.

....one thing I might add, the Sante Fe art galleries have been around probably for about 25 years or more, but certainly, in the last five years, the area has taken off from being an area with 2 or 3 authentic mexican restaurants a few warehouses and a scattering of galleries, to an area of bookstores, coffee shops, 2 theatres, several lofts and a bunch of art galleries.

Thank you PHX31! There are hundreds of historic homes here and most are well maintained. The oldest neighborhood, Curtis Park, has been undergoing some significant renovations since the late 1980s. Just went on their 34th annual home tour last month and all of the homes I visited were rehabilitated by individual owners. Many still need major help but the few in the thread above came out fantastically well. Though our downtown is the 10th largest in the country, Denver proper is not that large, but it does cherish the history it has. I am working on a Halloween thread which will include the local cemeteries from the mid 1800s and some of the first homes built back then, which are supposedly haunted. So you will see more of the wonderful historic homes here soon. Thank you again for the compliments!

....since you are the man with the camera who knows how to use it. Could you get some shots of The Richthofen Castle which is around 12th and about Quebec (7020 east 12th)?? It would be a good Halloween shot. Its a big old 3 to 4 story, 35 room mansion with a good haunted feel. Also, theres an interesting house just north of Colfax...I think its around 1560 Clarkson, just east across from Wendy's. The 3 story buildings has statues and gargoyles on it.

Thanks and keep your great shots coming. Oh, there used to be an old old graveyard kind of north of the stockyards .......

Beautiful pix. Makes me homesick, though the snow shots remind me of why I moved to a place where there really aren't seasons.

I am already all over this. The only item I did not have is the Richthofen Castle, which I will now get, thank you for the address. The cemetery north of the stockyards is Riverside and I was there 2 weekends ago, creep as all hell. They are doing a night tour on the 27th, and I won't be there as it is just too scary. Shot Molly Brown's house, the Grant Humphrey's, the Stanley in Estes and Fairmount and Mount Olivet cemeteries. Here are a few teaser photos for my Halloween thread. This is the house by Wendy's off of Colfax and two of the many of Riverside cemetery.

Awesome, two things I really love:

Halloween

Great looking historic houses

I'll look forward to the Halloween thread. I actually thought the house in this thread just before the picture of the snow covered house/building looked haunted/Halloween-y.

...but there's a cemetary with gravestones from the 1800's if you drive all the way through Central City and go past the last of the old old houses...kind of a "boot hill". There's also the "Face on the Bar Room Floor" in one of the casinos.

Yes, the old Central City cemetery. I think the face on the floor is that of Baby Doe Tabor, it is famous. I will try to make it up there as there are some abandoned mines that are really nifty, yet scary. :dead: :goodnight: :runaway:

I've been there at night with a group of friends for a ghost hunt. Needless to say, the ghosts weren't out that night. However its a really creepy place to go!!

Great photos 'Aztec. Your city is amazing and you capture it very well. Did I miss the Coors Field shots? What is a summer recap thread without the Rockies? j/k

Great thread, I haven't seen many of those areas you shot.

Thanks EastIdaho! Sorry no Coors field pics, having my camera never coincided with a Rockies game. Unfortunately, I have been out of town recently on business so much that I am missing the action in person. But your are right, what is summer without baseball! If we end up giving PHX the spanking they deserve, then I will at least get the crowds for the World Series. Funny I fly out for Phoenix next week. :koko:

I really enjoyed how you not only captured the architecture of the city, but the different events that make living in Denver such a joy. Thanks for sharing your photos.
