Good stuff!

I couldn't help noticing in some of the pics how much we spend in vast infrastructure to support automobiles, and how grossly underutilized it is part of the time.

Wonderful pics - great tour of a gritty city.

Whilst most of the city is clearly and uniquely American looking, many of those terraces and row houses could have come straight from the Edwardian and Victorian suburbs of almost any British town...

How much is that in real money (i.e. Canadian dollars)? Nyuck. Is there a commercial strip nearby with Asian restaurants, a bike shop, maybe an English-style pub?

What street is that on? It would be fun to look at the satellite images.

^Those homes are on Kennett Place in the Lafayette Square neighborhood on the city's Near South Side. Within easy walking distance is Park Avenue, which is lined with restaurants, bars and shops of all varieties. This is one of the single most impressive neighborhoods in the city, only about a mile from downtown St. Louis.

theres a decent brewpub on the street jive mentioned. i don't know about a bike shop, but the area has a lot of bike lanes and is connected to a decent city wide bike lane system. there were and maybe still are more americanized style asian restaurants nearby, but the good stuff is in the south grand business district (a lazy bike ride away). the rise of this neighborhood is nothing short of meteoric...
