I can't wait to visit Paris for the first time, I'm counting the days. I do have to say I'm feeling a bit itimadated by this city. Never have I felt this way visiting any other city. I think perhaps its because I don't know the language, but thats not all since I've been to other cities that aren't english speaking. Probably a combination of the two, language, and the fact that French people aren't too fond of Americans.

Where is this (http://www.urbanohio.com/OtherStates/France/Paris/2007/Paris214.jpg)?

You can see the Trocadero and the collines de Passy.
The photo shows the right bank of the Seine, across the Eiffel Tower.

Again, a very good collection of photographs. One question: do they serve beer in wine glasses at Parisian cafés? This photograph (http://www.urbanohio.com/OtherStates/France/Paris/2007/Paris132.jpg) has me wondering.

Great pictures of probably the most aesthetically pleasing and culturally significant city in the world.

I've seen this as well, in Paris and elsewhere. Not a wine glass per se, but they use stemmed glasses quite often in Benelux as well (notice that Stella Artois billboards in the U.S. typically show the beer in a stemmed glass). This is actually becoming pretty trendy in general - a lot of nicer bars in NYC or restaurants will serve beer in a stemmed glass.

so romantic, the present day problem for this awesome city is growing racism
Bound to happen when you've got uncontrolled immigration from the former colonies and a growing population of disaffected Arabs in the banlieue who won't or can't assimilate into French society...

Great series - Paris looking tres beau as always xxx

(btw Ken in Halifax - those are beer glasses, not wine glasses. They often serve beer in glasses like that in Europe - the pint glass is more of an English/ German/ Dutch invention... at least, I think so..)

Great photos, as always. Paris is now on top of my travel list.

@ Ken - for example the Belgian beer Leffe (http://www.lamerde.net/images/leffe1.jpg) is served in that kind of glasses. They are heavier and thicker than wine glasses.

Sure, the racism and the already rampant anti-Semitism cannot be ignored. But this is Europe we're talking about.

So what's your take on Paris, ColDay? Dubba, Plinko (I think) and others seemed to think it was just "OK".

I've been to Tokyo, London, Madrid, Mexico D.F., Osaka, Hong Kong, Cairo, Barcelona (me gusta mucho), the American and Canadian cities, and even Abu Dhabi. None have touched me on such a personal, comfortable level as Paris has. If there were rampant racism in that city/metro, then I certainly didn't feel it/see it, as an African-American. I can see why Nina Simone, my grandfather, and Paul Robeson moved there. No matter who, from the African women of the northeast suburbs to the elitist, white men of the city, all were really nice, social, talkative (in a good way), and downright homely. It is the first city in which I can honestly say, I'd move there in a heartbeat. The African culture, the Arabic culture, the Asian culture, the European/white culture, all of which I found to be interesting intellectually and even musically.

Basically, I love it. Sure, it's repetitous, the bottled water prices outrageous, the subway stuffy, the "planned" city can get quite boring, overpriced Quick Burgers, and some rude people I met turned me off but f*ck it, I loved it. The "suburbs" around it (particularly the northeast and southeast side) I found quite fascinating (really enjoyed the Afro-Arab burbs along the RER) while the city felt like a intimate garden. Christ, I miss it.

African-American tourists should be fine, unless they are named Oprah. And well, Paris has both the largest number of Arabs and Jews of any metro in Europe, so the rampant anti-Semitism isn't exactly shocking.

Can we get an encore? The touristy pictures are nice, but if you really did venture into the NE & SE suburbs, then by all means...

I did but here is the problem (on why I don't have photos): family. This was my father's graduation gift for me to take me, himself, and his girlfriend on this trip. They obviously want to see the touristy stuff (they are the types that go to Fiji for vacation, not Fez, if you catch what I am saying) and that's what we did in the day. They got tired early and thus leaving me alone to do my own thing...at night. So I explored (via bus, RER, and subway [until 1am, obviously]) the northeastern and southeastern "suburbs" (though they really are an extension of the city, much like Hoboken or Evanston) to just walk around, went to a couple of bars, and took in the culture. I wish I had my camera in those nights but I retired the camera for nightshots (left it at the hotel) except for the final night, for which I was on the Champs Elysees (as you can see in some of my final shots). But next time, I won't have my father on this trip and hopefully will do the suburbs justice in the day time.
