View Full Version : My Google Sketchup Airport I

BoiseAirport
Aug 7, 2007, 8:39 PM
Hello!

I've been designing an airport on Sketchup, and I've really been starting to like it. I've started with the terminal, and I think I'm going to keep building until the entire airport is finished. It is either located for a small Southern California city or a small city in Florida or the Caribbean. I've decided to start working on an airport, because that's just the area where I'm the most knowledgable and creative. I may create more terminal designs later on, as the scale for the one I'm working on is...well, off. Anyway, screenshots are coming soon!

Yeegads, I've decided to start over...this one just isn't working the way I would've liked it to. Sorry to tease you all so much, I'm not the one who likes doing this at all :(.

I'll still have the model in case I want to continue it later or you want to see more pics.

Oh, lol, re-reading my post, it makes it sounds like I don't like creating airports. I love building them, I just don't like teasing, lol. Sorry about that.

Anyway, I've been working on this new airport for the past 4 hours, and it's coming along great! Almost ready for screenshots!

HOLY MEGA SUPER UPDATE:

This new airport is waayyyyy more complex. I've started with the terminal building main concourse and aircraft gates with the ticket counters/baggage claim/etc. still in the works. But it is COMPLETELY furnished with everything I can think of in an airport. This airport is located in So-Cal, near the Arizona border just east of Palm Springs. Now for the pics! I got 10 of 'em

Plus schedule!

Also, to give credit where credit is due:

WilliamT designed the aircraft, which I slightly modified.
The moving walkways were found on 3D Warehouse.
The Tables at "El Awesome!" were found on 3D Warehouse.
The thingys at the top of the building were found on 3D Warehouse.

Other than that, everything was hand created except for the components.

That looks fantastic! I made an airport once too, but not at all this detailed. Any shots of front ticket counters or metal detector areas?

Anyway, the rest of the terminal (inside) is completed. There'll be a few more adjustments before I post screenshots, but overall I'm very proud of my creation. Expect Screenies soon (possibly tonight).

If you look closely at the woman who is grabbing the man, he looks remnicient of Bill Clinton.

Hey, just givin ya guys a few KK renderings. These took about an hour to render each, which pretty much sucks noodles.

Anyway, to give a little update, I tried messing around a little bit with the current airport, and just realized the file size was waaaayyy too big and my computer became incredibly laggy trying to modify it at all. So I just kinda gave up on it. This next model is semi-original as it's one that I created using mostly components and models from the 3D warehouse. The purpose of it was to test applying which lights to use (and how big of a fizesize my computer will handle) as I'm creating an entirely different airport for...dun dun dun...Antopia!

Anyway, onto the pics:

I inserted all of the lights through Sketchup. It was actually incredibly easy. Download the latest version of SU2KT, and included in the file is a thingy of components. They're pre-made lights of various kinds that you can easily put into your model. You can adjust brightness (by increasing the scale), color, anything, it's great!

Thanks for the comments guys! I'll be sure to make every building in Antopia at least as detailed as this somewhat simple airport model. It's still gonna be great (and sorry for the lack o' updates, I really am working on it. I just personally like updates that are large and far between. It increases the level of surprise and improvement, IMO.)

That first render caught me off guard and I mistook it as real life for a few seconds. That lighting is incredible. If you plan on doing Antopia renders like this, then I can't wait for Antopia!
