Cypress is planning a large mixed-use urban development called West 7th for the Cultural District. The project would be on several blocks bounded by 7th, University, Morton, and Foch (this includes the entirety of the Acme Brick headquarters, all of which will be demolished). It will be located adjacent to developments such as Montgomery Plaza, So7, and Museum Place.

Thus far, there has been one rendering shown - on the project's sign. Here's a photo of it:

Big news from West 7th - we have our hands on more renderings and details now.

West 7th will feature 890,000 square feet of retail, office, hotel, and residential space featuring 288 residential units. It also appears that an arthouse theatre and possibly a market are part of the plans. 7th Street itself will be fronted by 7 story office buildings with ground floor retail.

The site plan & renderings:

That looks pretty cool. I like a lot of the stuff Fort Worth is doing.

They aren't wasting any time on this one. The first block has already been cleared, and dirt has started moving:

Meanwhile, the next block is now being demolished:

There are demo fences up around another block already, and red tape around a fourth where they are doing asbestos removal. After that, we should see the former Acme Brick headquarters demolished.

Underground parking is rarely an option in Fort Worth. You hit bedrock very quickly when you start digging in and around downtown, and it gets really expensive and slow. Only really big projects usually go that way, such as the new Omni Hotel in downtown. The garages in West 7th will at least be funky-looking and feature ground-level retail.

This little vacant auto glass building & parking lot on the north side of W. 7th Street across from the Acme Brick buildings rather mysteriously spawned a demolition fence and backhoe recently. There were no announcements of any new projects, and the West 7th documents Cypress put out showed that all of that project's buildings would be on the south side of 7th.

Curious, I found the address of the property and looked it up in TAD, and it is owned by none other than Cypress. It looks like they've decided to expand the West 7th project to the north side of 7th as well. It will be interesting to see what they plan to build here.

In related news, orange cones are being placed around parts of the Acme site. I imagine that it won't be long before we start to see demolition work there as well.

You know how much fun it would be to destroy a building?

Cypress Equities continues demolishing block after block on 7th in preparation for its West 7th mixed-use development. In the heart of the project, one of the last holdouts - 7th Haven - prepares to depart its soon to be demolished building on the 27th (don’t worry, 7th Haven fans - they’re moving across the street from Montgomery Plaza).

Dirt is now moving on the first block. I would expect progress to continue to be swift.

The former Acme Brick headquarters will be coming down soon, and crews have already been spotted doing interior demolition work.

The asbestos removal in the former Taylor’s Rentals building at 7th & University seems to have wrapped, demo fences have gone up, and early demolition work is underway. Crews have been spotted taking apart parts of the building already.

Another block in the south side of the project is cleared. For reference, this is across the street from Pop’s Safari.

Meanwhile, across 7th, the old Econo Glass building has been completely demolished and cleared.

Cypress is not wasting time here. They are really moving on this project.

Great news for the city. The Cultural District will be a stand out neighborhood. Now if we could just get more highrises and skyscrpaers in downtown...

Sorry, but I'm a hugh fan of skylines.

I wish Fort Worth would refurbish the Will Rogers Center to go with this wonderful new construction. A ring of suites inside the arena would do wonders keeping a minor league hockey team in town. Considering the Convention Center downtown will be destroying its arena in the same manner as the auditorium, keeping Will Rogers up to date would seem the best route. Will Rogers is a wonderful old arena, but it does need a touch of modernization.

There are already plans afoot.

Before the Convention Center Arena gets demolished, the Bass family will be funding the construction of a new arena at the Will Rogers complex near the original.

That would be great, considering the planned demolition of the arena downtown. A new arena near Will Rogers would be a great location for an arena suitable to hold a minor league hockey team. At 700,000 in population, Fort Worth should not be second fiddle to Oklahoma City or Tulsa, or Wichita. While we might be second fiddle to Dallas, the old complex of Will Rogers is showing its age. Our minor league hockey team should have at least a minor league home, not a semi-pro home. I would be happy with a 6000 seat new arena, along with 24 or so modern suites, similar to the new arenas in Allen or Cedar Park. But larger is better for concerts.

Without any suites providing the needed income to pay the rent, neither Will Rogers or the Ft. Worth convention center arena downtown are suitable for the minor league hockey team anymore. Plus, I would like to see a AFL2 minor league indoor football club as well in the new arena. I am interested in good family entertainment, which isn't as costly as major league.

As a quick followup - the new arena will be built on the large parking lot at Montgomery & Harley, next to the WRMC barns, the Cowgirl Museum, and the new Science & History Museum.
