Saskatoon is growing fast, how many years do you believe it will take for it to reach 300,000 people?

If you assume annual growth rate 2.5% and a CMA ~235000...then in 10 yrs
then 235000*1.025^10 = just over 300k

At the current growth rate, for the city proper, not until 2021

Actually, we both made the same mistake. Saskatoon isn't growing at 2.8% per year, it's growing at 2.8% per 5 years, which is 0.56% per year.

So, at the current rate, Saskatoon would reach 300,000 in the year 2077

oh ya u're right....that doesnt look good.
Hopefully most of that 2.8% was growth from 2005 and 06 and the pop is going to increase at a much faster pace as economy in sask keeps gong strong.

Hi... long time lurker first time poster (this year) :P

Anyway i found this map here, it seems the city of believes saskatoon will have a population of 400,000 by the year 2055.

It also gives you a good idea where most of the suburban development will occur as well as where the new perimiter highway will be placed.

^Very cool
this site: http://www.canadianbusiness.com/rankings/bestplacestolive/list.jsp?pageID=profile&profile=93&year=2007&type=profile&listType=CITY&ptype=CITY pegs Saskatoon's current growth rate at 3.5%. I believe the growth rate that the census gave was a year old before it was released so the real boom in this past year or so isn't evident in those numbers.

I really don't see Saskatoon doubling in size in 48 years. That would mean a growth rate of almost 3% per year, which is faster than Calgary is growing

the 3.5 refers to score, not percentage. It is actually a low score. From the website:

"The average population growth in Canada between 2001 and 2006 was approximately 6%. We determined that the ideal growth rate for a community would be higher than the national average, so we chose an ideal rate of just under 7.5% in total over the 2001 to 2006 time period. The closer a community's actual growth rate was to this ideal rate, the more points it got. Communities with a negative growth rate received zero points. Source: Statistics Canada"

The stars are aligning. I'll second your optimistic attitude and raise you a  for a new governing party and expanded uranium and oil industries.
